Former Australian doubles world No.1 Rennae Stubbs questioned what problem the policy was intended to address. "There aren't any," Stubbs said of transgender women competing on the professional tour during The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast. "There are currently no known transgender women competing in professional tennis." Stubbs also rejected the suggestion that men would transition simply to gain an advantage in women's sport. "No man is deciding at 18 or 20 years of age, 'You know what? I think I can win Wimbledon if I just become a woman, I'm going to start taking oestrogen and do all these things to get myself a Wimbledon title'," she said."It just doesn't happen." She also revealed she underwent sex verification before representing Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. "We actually got given a card to basically say, 'Oh yeah, you're a woman, you have the genes of a female, therefore you can participate'," Stubbs said. "I thought it was such an invasion of my own privacy back then. "Why the WTA needs to venture into this category of controversy is just bizarre to me." xitter.cf/kirstimiller30/status/…
The overlooked consequence of WTA's new sex testing policy. The WTA has introduced mandatory genetic testing for every player seeking to compete on the women's professional tour. The policy has largely been discussed through the lens of transgender participation in sport. But the athletes most likely to receive an unexpected result may not be transgender women. They may be women who have always lived and competed as women, but unknowingly have an intersex variation. Under the new policy, players must complete a one-off test for the SRY gene, usually through a cheek swab or blood sample. The SRY gene is normally found on the Y chromosome and plays a central role in male sex development. A positive result triggers further medical assessment before a player's eligibility is determined. @Peter_Fitz Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi ⏩ Former Australian doubles world No.1 Rennae Stubbs questioned what problem the policy was intended to address. "I thought it was such an invasion of my own privacy back then. "Why the WTA needs to venture into this category of controversy is just bizarre to me." Sport has done this before. Mandatory sex verification is not new. International sporting bodies introduced widespread testing of women during the 1960s, initially through physical examinations and later through chromosome screening. The testing was presented as a way to stop men from entering women's competition. History shows something quite different happened. Medical reviews found that rather than identifying men masquerading as women, the programmes instead identified women with previously unknown variations in their sex characteristics, while also producing false positives and disputed findings that fuelled growing scientific criticism. For many athletes, the consequences were profound. Some had careers disrupted or ended, while many had deeply private medical information exposed to public scrutiny.  Spanish hurdler María José Martínez-Patiño was ruled ineligible after chromosome testing identified a Y chromosome in the 1980s. She later revealed she had androgen insensitivity syndrome, meaning her body could not respond typically to the hormones associated with male development. Martínez-Patiño successfully challenged the decision and returned to competition, but only after losing years of her career and having deeply private medical information made public. The experiences of athletes such as Martínez-Patiño helped prompt scientists, doctors and sporting officials to question whether chromosome screening was scientifically justified or ethically appropriate. The International Olympic Committee abandoned universal chromosome screening in 1999 following sustained criticism from researchers, clinicians and athletes. Now, more than 25 years later, broad genetic screening is returning to elite women's sport. Source: The First Serve share.google/EGW7IF2suSjrx4Q…

Yep. Unfortunately common sense doesn’t prevail with the lot running world sports at the moment.

100%. Some still try to make us feel that way. My old school ie Joeys have made it impossible for kids to transition while at school. Didn’t matter I busted my gut for them on the sporting fields!

Transphobes think your son playing with a doll is going to make him trans. Let me tell you how nonsensical that is. I played MONOPOLY & I am still broke & own nothing. The thing about transgender people is that until they accept who they really are, they try to hide it. I did that by being a tough boy. I was a good sportsman, a first-grade rugby league player for Wagga Wagga, and I represented Australia in modern pentathlon, where you run, swim, ride, shoot and fence. I was also a good boxer. I trained hard and competed hard. I thought it would make the girl inside me go away. I know a lot of transgender girls who did the same thing. It’s ironic that some of the toughest men you see might be girls on the inside, trying to overcompensate. I’m open and proud of being a woman from a transgender background, but it’s not what defines me anymore. I’d rather people ask me what my favourite colour is, what sort of music I like, or who I think is going to win the AFL flag this year. I can still talk about blokey things. google.com/url?q=https://www…

The AFL are not ready for pride rounds they need to have Shame Rounds First. It must be so hard to be homophobic all week and then have to stop for a couple of hours on the AFL field. AFL Pride Games so far have only been about making the AFL look progressive. The Pride games staged by the AFL have all been celebratory in nature. The right for the AFL to host or engage with Pride initiatives should not be a given. There must be benefit to LGBTIQ+ communities, not simply to make the AFL or and AFL club look progressive. The AFL cannot cherry pick which part of Pride they engage with or celebrate; we are a diverse community you cannot leave the trans and gender diverse and intersex communities out of these celebrations. The AFL are not Rainbow Ready. They must get their own shop in order first and foremost, before any big Pride spectacles. These steps should include education and training, policy development (for example trans-inclusion policies), anti-homophobia and transphobia campaigns or participation programs. Suspending homophobic players, & hosting a one-off Pride Games & walking down the rainbow filled streets of Mardi Gras, or posting a tweet in support of former bisexual male AFL player is not going to solve complex problems such as homophobia and transphobia in the AFL. When sports like the AFL become so fixated with their pursuit towards inclusion – adding rainbow banners to social media posts and logos – that they simultaneously fail to address the very reasons why LGBTIQ+ people do not feel included in the first place: anti LGBTIQ+ discrimination. outinperth.com/gold-coast-pl…

Disagree. Australia looks fantastic after this. Modern, progressive, inclusive. Brilliant things you should be proud of. Sad that some are stuck in the past with ignorant prejudices. The Biddy Mafia are the issue. Latter day Mary Whitehouse’s. Well done Oz! 🏳️‍⚧️@SenSHenderson
The Giggle v Tickle decision has made Australia an international laughing stock. Women and girls’ single-sex spaces must be protected. The law must be changed. @SkyNewsAust
