Budget 2026 enables decisive action on housing and homelessness. Bold and welcome federal leadership.
Municipalities are ready to deliver.
We now need aligned provincial health, social and operating supports - and we all need to move fast.
Let’s go.

Wab Kinew on the cost of not addressing homelessness: "It is borne by the police officer who has to revive somebody. It's borne by the paramedic who is run off their feet every shift. The nurse in the hospital, in the emergency room. There is a huge cost to the status quo. The status quo is not working."
What a moment for Winnipeg. 2,000 homes + critical supports.
Bold federal leadership matched by provincial and municipal commitment. This is what’s possible when governments step up together.
@FCM_online will work to accelerate and scale this progress across Canada. Let’s go.

Investments in #Budget2026 give Canada an opportunity to move more people into affordable, safe, and stable homes.
Municipalities are ready to do their part.
Budget 2026 also gives us a real opportunity to make it easier and faster to build homes across Canada.
Municipalities are already working to streamline approvals. With $100M in funding, @FCM_online will build on that work, scale proven solutions and accelerate housing delivery.

In Edmonton this week, FCM President @TimTierney and 1st VP @valentinokathy connected with municipal leaders from across Alberta at the @RuralMA's Fall Convention.
In Alberta and across the country, rural municipalities are the backbone of the Canadian economy. FCM will continue pushing the federal government for rural priorities—because strong communities make a strong Canada.

Communities that can withstand disruption are better positioned to attract investment and protect local economies. With the #GoC, FCM’s Green Municipal Fund (GMF) helps municipalities prepare for climate risks and strengthen resilience.
Since 2024, GMF investments are expected to help protect 17,500+ people, strengthen 19.9 km of critical infrastructure and prepare 160 public buildings for extreme weather. Learn about our impact: greenmunicipalfund.ca/annual…

Congratulations to all municipal leaders elected across British Columbia. Thank you for stepping up to serve your communities. Local leadership matters enormously. The FCM team and I look forward to working with you to build stronger, more prosperous and resilient communities.
A special congratulations to our returning @FCM_online board members and to @PtFry and Doug McCallum, who join our Big City Mayors’ Caucus.
To those concluding their municipal service, thank you for your leadership and contributions to communities across Canada.
And a heartfelt thank you to @rebeccaleebligh. As FCM President and Table Officer, Rebecca brought conviction, integrity and thoughtful leadership to our national work. I’ve deeply valued her perspective, her commitment to municipalities and the opportunity to work alongside her.

Spoke with Canadian Blood Services. I’m told there is no emergency blood drive currently in Wainwright but they are taking appointments starting Tuesday in Edmonton. There has been an outpouring of support to offer blood and O positive and O negative blood is the most versatile and in high demand. If you can give please call +1 (888) 236-6283
Thank you everyone for your prayers and for being there for our men and women in uniform at this difficult time.

All Canadians stand with the service members at CFB Wainwright, their families, and their community.
Deeply concerning news from Wainwright tonight. My thoughts are with Canadian Armed Forces personnel, their families, and friends and colleagues in the communities affected by this rapidly evolving situation.
Grateful to the first responders on an incredibly difficult night.

I had the honour of introducing Prime Minister Carney at last night’s Forever Canadian rally in Calgary. But my heart was with the victims of the tragic bus crash in northeast Calgary, their loved ones, and the first responders. Our entire city stands with you in grief.

Today’s federal announcement marks an important investment in helping Canadians lower their home energy bills and reduce emissions.
Reaching the ambition of retrofitting one million homes will mean bringing together a range of complementary solutions. Canadians also need access to affordable financing and solutions that support comprehensive home retrofits, including improvements to energy efficiency and climate resilience.
There is a significant opportunity to build on today’s measures with complementary approaches that help more households undertake deeper retrofits, mobilize additional investment and deliver lasting savings. Municipalities have an important role to play in making those solutions work for communities across Canada.
FCM looks forward to working with the federal government to turn this ambition into lasting, measurable results.

Today, leaders from FCM, along with a delegation of municipal leaders from @SARM_Voice and @SUMAConnect connected with Saskatchewan Minister of Government Relations, Eric Schmalz.
Saskatchewan municipalities play a critical role in supporting Canada's economy through agriculture, resource development, trade corridors and community growth.
All orders of government must work together to truly meet the moment that Canadians are facing and ensure communities are ready for the growth that comes with federal ambitions.
