It’s time for government intervention.

Australians are having to choose between food and soap or toothpaste.
We can do better than this as a country.
We're a wealthy country. This about choices - like deciding not to have a windfall profits tax to get a return for 🇦🇺 during an energy crisis, or not getting a return on our gas exports.
That's money that could go to dealing with root causes of cost of living - housing, energy costs and transport.

When public servants give evidence in a public hearing, about jobs that the public pays them to do, their answers should be direct, unambiguous, and detailed. That is the contract between the public and government. Any suggestion otherwise goes against that agreement.

Some of Europe’s highest energy costs expected in Britain this winter.
Since privatisation UK gas storage capacity reduced to about 8 - 12 days, EU has 80 -120 days.
UK is net importer of electricity.
Wars, Privatisation and profiteering take toll.

SORRY IF THIS OFFENDS STORE MANAGERS, BUT I'M DONE.
I just pulled $140 worth of groceries off the shelf, carried them across the store, scanned every item myself at a self-checkout kiosk, bagged every single item, and tapped my own card.
Then the machine screen flipped around and asked:
"Would you like to round up your total to donate to corporate charity?"
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
You eliminated 12 cashier jobs to cut corporate payroll, forced me to provide free manual labor for 15 minutes just to buy food, and now you want ME to fund your tax write-off?
If I'm doing the work of an employee, give me a 10% self-checkout discount at checkout.
Stop asking for tips and donations at kiosks where I did 100% of the work.

In the last year, 1 in 5 parents sent a child to school without enough to eat. Coles and Woolies $5.3 billion profit in that year is enough to feed every child in poverty for the whole year, and then some. Check out the Greens plan for a publicly owned supermarket that would save you 30% on groceries 👇🏼

Obscene bank profits are never enough - $15.1b in combined profits and they still hunt for ways to sack thousands of staff - this time using AI as the driver. The issue here is the profits, not the workers.

Comparison with European monarchies is not easy but the UK King seems to receive generous public funding, £99.9m.

Good value for money, or not?

The economic system the government oversees is a wreck — given one in every seven Australians live their lives buried by poverty.
“3,700,000 Australians live in poverty, including one in seven adults and one in six children.”
It’s Anti-Poverty Week this week, and I stood with colleagues and community advocates to remind the Gov that while 3.7 million Australians live in poverty, including one in seven adults and one in six children, the Gov’s priorities are clearly out of whack #auspol #raisetherate

Thousands of Australians are dying due to lack of government services.
Every day 17 frail older people die waiting for help at home that doesn’t arrive. Every one of them had already been through the approval process (which is taking up to a year) & then died waiting. Labor aged care failure. @AlboMP @AustralianLabor
