New Psychology Today post -- guest authored by Dr. Cari Pick (@Cari_Pick), who led our international research team:

Now, in a friendly blogpost w/ no sciencey gobbledygook (jk, we don’t use that)--do people around the world differ in the social goals they care about? Spoiler: Most people care most about their family. But how do countries differ? Read at psychologytoday.com/us/blog/… @LaithAlShawaf
This is a freely available @PsychToday blogpost I guest wrote with @LaithAlShawaf about our (also freely available) @ScientificData article: nature.com/articles/s41597-0…. See thread: xitter.cf/Cari_Pick/status/15595…
Excited that our paper exploring how fundamental social motives (like caring for family, maintaining friendships, finding romantic partners, avoiding disease) vary across 42 cultures is out! @ahra_ko @DouglasTKenrick @awiezel @AlexandraWorm @MeVarnum 1/5

Here, you can see the societies where cross-sectional data collection took place. Wave 1: 8,998 people in 32 countries; Wave 2: 6,917 people in 29 countries (19 countries represented in both waves) (Fig. 1)

Replying to @awiezel
@awiezel and colleagues (@michael_barlev, Kenrick, Martos) found that although people stereotype leaders as being dominant men, they strongly prefer prestigious leaders and slightly prefer female leaders #SPSP2022
Thank you to all the presenters, and thanks especially to @michael_barlev @Frenchette87 and Will McAuliffe for organizing such a fun and intellectually stimulating preconference (and to @HumBehEvoSoc for funding). It's good to be back!! (with COVID precautions) #SPSP2022
How do we find out info about other people if we can't observe it, if it's highly important, or if we don't have much time? We "test"--for example by making a controversial joke to judge someone's reaction, or putting them in a specific situation to see how they behave #SPSP2022
Looking forward to presenting my dissertation work in a data blitz at the #spsp2022 evolutionary psychology preconference in about an hour! How do we find out info we can't observe about other people? Spoiler: We test them!
#spsp2022 ev psych preconference: Jon Maner and collegaues' (Case, Cheng) work on how dominant leaders try to maintain power at expense of group goals: divide supporters, suppress communication, withhold info
But prestigious leaders are hypervigilant to social threats and may pander to group preferences to keep social approval
