It’s going to get worse but we are rapidly becoming a society of two types of people, ones who can function normally the way people have for thousands of years, and the other who have intellectually neutered themselves in the delusional belief that it is to become more efficient
So the people that are anti AI, do you like, not use AI at all??? Like not using it for generative art, and paying artists, I understand, but you're behinnnndddd if you refuse to touch it

I think part of the despair we all feel is that the past 200 years were an incredible period of human achievement—in film, literature, music—and now we’re being told that nothing will ever be achieved again. The end of all human culture. “We have seen the best of our time.”

Pre-AI era human written literature is now the new low background steel of the 21st century, uncontaminated by LLMs
Literature was going to have a rough road regardless, but the epistemic ability of the people in charge here all but guarantees that it is finished as a human endeavour. There is only one way to read fiction by humans—find stuff published before 2024. theatlantic.com/books/2026/1…

I am not joking when I say this. Traveling is over. Google Street View is now very, very good. You just don’t know yet because all the street views you’ve seen are from 2-3 generations ago. Google Street View has solved infinite personalized travel.
I am not joking when I say this. Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over. AI music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all AI music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago. Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.

They’re being very frank about the fact that they want to abolish human art & creativity entirely. They envision a future where we live a joyless existence as serfs while machines write all the songs and novels. It’s hard to imagine a darker dystopia, but they are eager to build it.

Andor writing is fr a masterpiece because the characters speak with no-bullshit natural stripped down dialogue the way people speak in real life but then they also hit you with like 20+ quotes throughout the show that feel like being shot in the chest with a bazooka

Saw this in a gallery today and I have literally never had such an immediate emotional response to a piece of art.

went to the Batman 2 set in Glasgow and one of the security people said that they have to search the set for Irn Bru cans every night because the locals are trying to sneak one into the film and they keep popping up in the bins and hot dog stands lmao

Companies in the UK have just repeatedly decided they don’t want to train staff. They want someone else to do it, whether that be schools, colleges or unis. It’s why every government which tries to expand apprenticeships outside a few industries fails: companies can’t be arsed.
This is rapidly developing into a national crisis- adding to the profound generational inequities which already bedevil Britain. Working class kids have long not had the support they needed as the mass employment industrial world disappeared. Will we repeat the mistake with graduates? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crer…

The history of psychiatry (and other health specialties), shows that splurges in diagnosis tend to occur once a service has become available, because there is inevitably a huge backlog of people who have been struggling with unrecognised conditions for years. The “epidemic of diagnoses” is the real myth, aimed at blinding the public from this simple fact, and trying to crush existing services. Thankfully, nurse consultant @JessicaLDNurse is quoted on the programme: “The real problems are long waits, inequitable access, inconsistent quality and too little joined-up support across health, education, care and employment.” 1/ theguardian.com/society/2026…

claude scraped the whole internet of content without attribution or compensation for its model but wants credit for its work
Anthropic says new Claude models will embed invisible watermarks in all generated text, everywhere Claude is offered. The watermark is part of the text, it isn't metadata: "it will travel with the text when it's copied and pasted elsewhere, and may persist through some editing." This starts with models launched on or after August 2, 2026, under an EU AI Act code Anthropic signed. Anthropic is still working on adding it to current models. The rollout is worldwide.

Genuinely impossible to overstate his achievements. 19th when he came, qualifying for the Champions League the next season, ending a 70-year trophy wait, and the football (at times) was as good as you'd *ever* seen it. In the conversation for being our greatest ever manager imo.

Hadestown is awesome bc they know you know they know you know Orpheus will look back at the end so they hit you sideways with the metacommentary on the cyclical nature of myth and theatre performance, endlessly repeated and reinterpreted and retold. Just to keep you on your toes.
