🚨 Received ₹5,000 compensation from Jio Payment Bank for deficiency in service. Sharing my experience because I think it’s important. On 12 Aug, I requested them to close my savings account through email. They asked me to submit Aadhaar and a cancelled cheque/bank statement. I submitted everything they asked for. They said the account would be closed within 7 days. 7 days passed. No closure. I sent a reminder. Then another 7 days passed, so I sent another reminder. Every time, I was getting almost the same copy-paste reply. After more than 20 days, they again asked me to submit documents. I submitted them again and they raised another closure request. At this point, I warned them that if the account was not closed within 48 hours, I would escalate the matter to the RBI Ombudsman. Still, they gave me another date and asked me to wait. I waited. Nothing happened. So I finally raised a complaint with the RBI Ombudsman and asked for ₹5,000 compensation for the deficiency in service. And surprisingly, the very next day after my RBI complaint, Jio Payment Bank permanently blocked my debit card and closed my savings account. Around 15 days after the RBI complaint, I received ₹5,000 compensation. Now my question is: Why did it take an RBI complaint to get a basic account closure done? I had already submitted the required documents and followed their process. Why couldn’t they close the account within the timeline they themselves provided? Customers shouldn’t have to keep following up for weeks and then approach the regulator for something as basic as closing a bank account. My takeaway: Don’t ignore service issues. Keep all your emails, screenshots and complaint numbers as evidence, and escalate when required. And yes, kudos to RBI for giving customers a platform to raise such issues. 🙌 #ccgeeks #rbi
