Using the dialog to further expand on this, I could see Asriel getting Jealous of Kris. His Golden Child mentality made him feel as if he was entitled to everyone's praise and attention. And him going away to college and no longer having that background made him kinda hated-

While yes old fanworks has insane mischaracterization, That doesn't mean they don't got a point. UT and DR fans now just treat characters very one dimensionally very seriously and it's kinda a bad thing.
