For those claiming that the iPhone Duo simply uses a Samsung display and puts Apple’s branding on it, here’s the reality. 👀
Apple has stated that the display did not exist in Samsung’s portfolio in the form Apple required. The two companies had to work together, with Apple providing its own specifications, engineering requirements, and design criteria to develop a display that met its standards. Not even Samsung’s existing OLED solutions met Apple’s exact requirements.
The same goes for the hinge, which Apple has stated was fully engineered by Apple.
Samsung may be the manufacturing partner, but that doesn’t mean it designed the entire technology. There’s a huge difference between supplying components and engineering a product around highly specific requirements.
Just because Samsung manufactures the display doesn’t mean Apple simply took an off-the-shelf panel and put it into the iPhone Duo. 🗿

I got 20 minutes with 3 Apple executives behind the iPhone Duo, so I asked 'em the questions that mattered to me:
🇰🇷 How much say did Samsung have in the design of its folding screen?
📸 Did Apple buy out the world's entire supply of under-display cameras?
📲 What's coming next: an iPhone Flip or iPhone TriFold?
As you might expect, some answers were easier to get than others 😄

I spent a week with the alternate-universe version of the iPhone Duo!
Too bad the software is ... the way it is, because I'd absolutely leave my Fold8 for this otherwise.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold Review is live now on MrMobile!

Finally getting around to configuring my Communicator!
I so miss this level of customization (props to Motorola and Samsung for blazing the trail!) and I'm so glad we're bringing it back at @clickskeyboard
Of course we're all waiting for the Duo, but the iPhone 18 Pro does have its own intrigue. You just gotta know where to look.
... or, uh, have an Android nerd review it 😄 youtu.be/9hf6QDQ8Zcc

Big day for @clickskeyboard... final Clicks Communicator phone specs released and customers can now turn their reservations into configured orders!
Just published a @crackberry article on it because old habits die hard. Worth a read!

The promised ⚾️:
The sponsor that originally had placement on this video took much longer to approve its integration than scheduled, which is what caused the hold. Eventually I got tired of waiting and swapped the integrations with another sponsor.
Sponsors sometimes disrupt the schedule like this, but without them, the channel wouldn't be able to operate at the scale/frequency it does. Thanks for your understanding! 🙏
Even the retro phone beat can get a little stale sometimes, so it's nice to see someone take a different approach!
This phone collector decided to focus his efforts on unreleased prototypes. I was stunned to discover how many "phones there never were." Cool stuff!

Yes, we know Sony invented the Discman before Apple invented the iPod. Microsoft the Tablet PC before Apple did the iPad. Same with smartphones. Seriously, NOBODY CARES who did what first if they still lost 🤷🏻♂️.. Being first doesn’t mean being better. 😉

How it started vs how it’s going.
The top photo was taken in Hong Kong with a 3D print of an early Communicator form factor study. We were carrying it around to judge the size and get a feel for how it might fit into our lives. The small white paper strip was a makeshift concept for an LED light that wrapped around the top edge of the phone so you could see it from all angles (before we came up with the Signal Light).
The bottom photo was taken this week, in the exact same spot but with a working Communicator. Amazing to see it come to life from idea to reality. 🤩
The most promising first-generation foldable ever.
First impressions from my hands-on with the iPhone Duo are live on the MrMobile YouTube channel: youtu.be/9Eme-c6nqCs
Seems like a good time to talk about folding phones! 😄 Specifically, what you should consider if you're thinking about buying one.
New video is live on MrMobile!

Capped off my Berlin visit with a @clickskeyboard catch-up, and picked up the latest Communicator prototype for internal testing!
Still much work to be done - none of these UI elements are final - but it's great to see the shortcut keys already functioning, and nearly the full range of "kill switch" options programmed. Custom Niagara build is coming together nicely too.
Keyboard still being tuned (and I'm rusty!) so my wpm score is low, but check out that accuracy 🔥

No new BlackBerry phones, but BlackBerry is back?!
Nice to get quoted by @FT alongside @BlackBerry’s current and former CEOs.
It’s been just over a year since I kicked off the #BringBackBlackBerry campaign and, funny enough… it’s kinda happened. Just a little differently than I envisioned.
Lots of articles lately about BlackBerry being “back” — the stock is up 130% YoY — while phones with real buttons are getting REAL attention and interest again.
Hello, Communicator from @clickskeyboard! 👋
Still work to do, but Mission (Nearly) Accomplished. 👍
