Canada must leverage its diplomatic influence to secure unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza and make sustained commitments to Palestinian-led reconstruction, prioritizing the restoration of healthcare, education, housing, and essential civilian infrastructure.

Today, Conservative Party of BC Victoria-Beacon Hill candidate Joachim Agou was rightly removed ahead of this month's provincial election in the aftermath of his disturbing and deeply problematic views.
Mr. Agou's disturbing online record includes, among other things, reposting clearly disturbing material while also appearing to call for outright violence against peaceful human rights activists.
It was the right decision to remove Mr. Agou as a candidate for the party going forward. There is no room for anti-Muslim hate or hate of any kind in our political process and elections.
Steps also must be taken to ensure that the BC Conservatives and indeed all parties commit to real policy changes to challenge the rise of Islamophobia.
All parties must ensure that there is no space for these views within their ranks.
Unfortunately, we are witnessing the appearance of Islamophobic rhetoric and messaging in too many corners of Canadian society—a problem that must be addressed by all communities coming together.

CMPAC is deeply concerned by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s October 7 statement, which commemorates Israeli victims while making no acknowledgment of the 73,000+ Palestinians killed, the widespread destruction of Gaza, or the grave violations of international law committed by Israel over the past three years. This omission is particularly troubling given Canada's stated commitment to universal human rights and international humanitarian law.
The October 7th attack cannot provide legal or moral justification for Israel's subsequent military campaign, collective punishment, mass displacement, and destruction of Palestinian civilian life. Any framework that invokes security or grievances to excuse violations of international law undermines the very principles this country repeatedly claims to uphold: respecting human rights and the rules-based international order.
CMPAC unequivocally condemns all forms of hate including antisemitism, and affirms the right of Jewish Canadians to safety, dignity and equal protection. Conflating legitimate criticism of the Israeli state with antisemitism undermines efforts to confront genuine anti-Jewish hatred, risks treating Jewish Canadians as collectively responsible for the actions of a foreign government, and threatens the fundamental freedoms of those advocating for Palestinian rights.
As Palestinians endure now three years of genocide, Prime Minister Carney’s statement disappoints as Canada cannot credibly invoke universal human rights while selectively recognizing civilian suffering or applying inconsistent standards of accountability.

Congratulations to @NaviPillay1 on her Nobel Peace Prize, which she dedicated to “all the survivors of international crimes.” Pillay chaired the UN Commission of Inquiry that concluded that Israel is perpetrating a genocide in Gaza. She also served as President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, a Judge of the International Criminal Court, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Her lifelong work reminds us of an important principle worth standing up for: Palestinians deserve the same human rights, protections, and justice as everyone else.
Today’s new US sanctions against the ICC are a reprehensible attempt to break the international justice order. We call on Canada to oppose these sanctions and to defend the UN and other international institutions against political intimidation.

According to @save_children more than 100 humanitarian, human rights, and other civil society organizations say that 1 year after the Gaza ceasefire agreement was reached, it exists in name only, with Israeli forces continuously killing Palestinians in Gaza daily.
Canada must pursue concrete accountability measures, including expanded sanctions, a comprehensive arms embargo, and support for independent investigations and international judicial mechanisms addressing violations of international law.

No, @AHousefather. Zionism is not simply about Jewish self-determination or Israel’s so-called right to exist. Nor can anti-Zionism simply be equated with antisemitism.
Zionism in practice is about support for a state project in which Jews dominate over Palestinians. Would Housefather defend a Canada constituted as an Anglophone Christian state, where Indigenous Peoples and everyone else are discriminated against and treated as a demographic threat? Or does he support a state for all its citizens?
Enough with the double standards. Opposing settler colonialism and ethnostates, and supporting democracy and equal rights are not antisemitism.
