Smith suggested we not be "angry" when we vote in the referendum. She seems to have no idea about how angry Albertans are with the damage and cost incurred by her referendum to appease the separatists in her party. Read the room Premier.
The referendum ballot doesn't say "send a message" or "get leverage." Option 2 asks about starting a binding vote to separate. That's not a negotiating tactic. If this is just a bluff, why would Ottawa care? Albertans deserve better than political games from the UCP.
Elections Alberta says that mail-in ballots requests for the referendum has passed 610,000.
You have until Friday at midnight to apply for a mail-in ballot.

A good reminder that if Canada is divisible, so too is Alberta.
Super majorities in Calgary and Edmonton will vote to stay in Canada, and will refuse to participate in any effort by Alberta to secede.
Add to that 47 First Nations reserves, and other communities that would insist on remaining part of Canada if Alberta ever tries to secede.
Imagine if the NDP spent $120M+ on a referendum with questions about a fake voting issue (out of the MAGA playbook), the Senate (nobody cares), and convoluted questions scapegoating immigrants for government incompetence. The outcry would be deafening.
The deadline to get your referendum mail-in ballot is fast approaching. The UCP are counting on long-lines and chaos during voting day to discourage Albertans from voting in support of Canada. Get your ballot, and remember No to the Nine and Stay in Canada.

1) Alberta’s government doesn’t pay a penny in equalization payments
2) No Albertan sends a cheque to Ottawa for their equalization payments
3) Albertans pay the same federal tax as residents of any province of the same age and income

I’ve watched this several times. It’s just more of the same self-pitying, victim narrative crap that has stoked the flames of separatism. She even questions if other Canadians “really want us.” Does this sound like someone who is campaigning against separatism, as she claims?
When you consider all we have been through with the UCP in power - the waste, the bull shit, the incompetence, the chaos - it would be understandable if we all had a cry at this point.
Smith enabled separatists by backing a provincial referendum, lowered signature thresholds for petitions, allowed separatists into the UCP leadership, refused a anti-separation pledge, & has not campaigned for Canada - as she declared she would.
Draw your own conclusions.
Based on the 2026 est. on the number of electors. The verified signatures on the Alberta independence petition amount to an estimated 7.5 % of all electors. The UCP are spending over $100 M to appease a tiny minority. It seems performative "direct democracy" does not come cheap.

Danielle Smith says she's putting us through all of this and spending $200 million because it will "settle the separatist question."
No one believes her. Not even her separatist pals and certainly not Albertans, most of whom think she's a separatist.
Vote to remain in Canada, vote no on the remaining questions, and elect an NDP government, because the separatist debacle will never end as long as she’s premier.

Eastern Canada isn't the reason Conservatives lose elections. Conservatives are.
This is the problem with the Alberta separatist crowd- who are mostly conservatives. Many feel that, because Eastern Canadians have "prevented" the election of conservative, pro-Western governments recently, they have to leave Canada.
But the East has voted conservative in the past, and it will again.
Every major party in the QC election is right leaning. ON has been governed by conservatives for most of the past 30 years. NS/PEI have conservative governments.
Conservative's core problem is blaming voters for our failure to offer them something compelling- and when they don't like what we are selling, we want to take our ball and go home.
With the Alberta referendum a month away, that's worth remembering.
If we want Eastern Canada to vote differently, our job is to persuade them. Not leave the country when we fail.
