Study of inheritance had been historically undertaken via a basic tool of observation and recording, well known today as pedigree.
English 'pedigree' is etymologically derived from the French 'pie de greu' meaning 'crane's foot'. 🦩
As medical genetics forges forward embracing molecular biology, pedigrees still form cornerstone of its practise.
The standardised pedigree nomenclature update for facilitating sex and gender inclusivity has been proposed in 2022.
