I wrote sport for The Sunday Telegraph for more than a decade. Now I just watch it and post mainly about the NRL Bulldogs, Arsenal and the 49ers.

Rugby League doesn’t get everything right. But that gesture to Jai Arrow - that’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen in the game. If you didn’t get goosebumps, you aren’t human. #Jai #NRL

That’s the second time this year a Bulldogs player has been penalised for tackling too hard and both times it’s changed momentum! It’s hard enough to win with our average at best attack but seriously! I note they didn’t penalise Souths’ player for high hit on Preston! Oh #NRL. 😡

The day Gerard Sutton retires will be the greatest day in the history of rugby league! Never has there been a referee that can stifle a game and cruel a team more through knit picking calls - no matter what teams he is officiating!

At the top level, playing not to lose loses most of the time..
Here’s @KuperSimon, @FT, unsuprisingly correct.

Where’s all the Laurie Daley and Nathan Cleary haters and baggers now! One of the greatest NSW series wins. Couldn’t be happier for Loz. Handled so much crap with nothing but dignity and class. #Origin

Exactly! What is it with some coaches? They’re either trying to be too smart or not brave enough to go for the win.
What was Popa thinking?!? 🤯 Full story: bit.ly/4adjMlB

Fun Fact: Sandon Smith was Central Coast rugby league junior player of the year in 2018. His team mate Cody Hopwood’s dad, Dean won the same award in 1989!

Emmanuel Petit on Premier League clubs mocking Arsenal after the final defeat: 🗣️ “I have to say, I found it embarrassing. The second Arsenal lost, some Premier League clubs couldn't wait to jump on social media and remind everyone about their European trophies. That tells you everything. Instead of supporting an English club representing the league on the biggest stage in club football, they were busy celebrating Arsenal's pain. For me, that's not rivalry. That's insecurity. Arsenal were 90 minutes away from doing something special, and rather than show respect, people were desperately searching through the history books for old trophies to post online. Why? Because they were terrified of seeing Arsenal join that club. Let's be honest, some of these clubs spent the entire season watching Arsenal compete at a level they couldn't reach. The jealousy was obvious. The moment Arsenal fell short, they treated it like they had won something themselves. That's the mentality of people who would rather see Arsenal fail than focus on their own success. The trophy may have slipped away, but the reaction from some rivals showed exactly how much Arsenal still live rent-free in their heads.”

Could not be prouder. We fought all the way against a quality team who are champions for a reason. It sucks to lose like that but hey, that’s football whether you like it or not! #UCL #Arsenal #COYG
A season to be proud of. We pushed the boundaries over land and sea, and couldn't have done it without your support. Thank you, Gooners ❤️

Hey @nrlphysio - who needs an ultra sound or MRI when Mick Ennis has the vision to ‘see a medial ligament twist’. 🤣🤣🤣

Nathan Cleary. Clutch 40-20. Powered over for try. Pinpoint kick for Teddy to do his thing and score match winner. I’d call that a pretty strong #Origin performance standing up when it mattered.

Nine won’t care because they’ll just point to the ratings but … seriously, the lead caller is appalling. It’s an insult to the audience. Stats and obvious observations and sounding incredulous at smallest things. If we’re forced to watch 9 4 times a year, they need to do better.

Jack Underhill. The most exciting thing about the Bulldogs this year. Love that kid. Love his story. Love his passion and commitment. Surely we pick him every week now! Surely!
