Could your accent make you sound guilty?
A new study from @MMLL_Cambridge @JesusCollegeCam @NottmTrentUni shows that British people still associate accents perceived as ‘working-class’ with criminal behaviour.

Thrilled to say that our paper on accent bias in forensic contexts is finally out, and you can read it here: frontiersin.org/journals/com…
It’s the first in a series of studies from @ivipproject with @WrightDW @NatalieBraber & Nik Pautz looking at what makes voices sound more guilty.
Lab member @alicepaver’s paper in @FrontiersIn is out today, and is garnering some interest in the press!

Yesterday lab members went for drinks to celebrate and say goodbye to Maddy, who is starting her new job at @KingsCollegeLon on Monday! We will miss your wisdom Maddy!
Today’s seminar was given by @mrccbu researcher Dr Tobias Goehring, who presented ground breaking research on ‘restoring the sense of sound with cochlear implants’. The team trained AI systems to try & decode speech in noisy environments for cochlear implant users. Thanks Tobias!
Thanks so much for coming back @panpzz, it was an honour to host you! We hope you enjoyed all the tricky questions 😉
Lovely to be back @CamPhonLab to present the second experiment of my MPhil thesis, which focused on the adaptive perception of ambiguous prosody (i.e., lexical tones in this study).
A great end to the week with a spooky Halloween lab formal at @LucyCavColl! 🎃👻
Get those applications in to come and do a PhD in the lab, co-supervised by @ForensicVoice 🎧

Our first P&P Seminar talk of the year was given by second-year PhD student @alicepaver, who presented research from the @ivipproject & her PhD on ‘Voice memory and the role of pitch distribution in a population’. Looking forward to more fascinating talks this Michaelmas term!
a great shot of our favourite Australian at #ISAPH2024 (behind a very impressive looking lectern!)
