My patient with diabetes relies on lifesaving insulin injections, even while traveling. He packed the insulin in his carry-on , but @AirCanada forced him to check it in and lost his luggage. He had no insulin for 3 weeks! This is potentially deadly and totally unacceptable!

Our study just published in @JAHA_AHA: young-onset type 2 diabetes has 6×⬆️risk of heart failure. Key figure: the earlier T2D is diagnosed, the higher the HF risk. We need to better prevent HF in T2D - especially in young adults. @BEchouffo @ICESOntario ahajrnls.org/3Ssj4ay
Canadian study finds younger age at T2D diagnosis is associated with higher risk for HF hospitalization. The higher risk remains after adjusting for hypertension, coronary artery disease, and chronic kidney disease. #AHAJournals @BEchouffo ahajrnls.org/3Ssj4ay
Thank you @BBDC_UofT for generously supporting my research! @earlydiabetesca

Delighted to share our review for @TheLancetEndo on early-onset type 2 diabetes
We use evidence from both adolescents & young adults to provide a contemporary review of type 2 diabetes in people aged <40 years, highlighting latest data & evidence gaps

The poor outcomes of young-onset type 2 #diabetes (YOD) have been shown in many countries. I have always wondered whether these outcomes differ by ethnicity. We looked at data from Canada, which has an ideal multiethnic population to answer to this question. Here's what we found.
So, in Chinese & South Asian populations—where type 2 diabetes is commonly driven by insulin deficiency—YOD leads to lower risks of some, but not all, complications compared to the general population. Addressing these differences is key to precision prevention strategies in YOD.
Thanks to my coauthors not on this platform, and to @CSEM_SCEM for funding this project.
