Cut off for so long from the rest of civilisation, I propose that those of us in Botley develop a new society, with strange rituals and customs ready to be discussed by anthropologists for generations.

As good a time as ever to note that JB Priestley’s Benighted is the best haunted house novel I’ve ever read, with the best descriptions of weather outside of Dickens.

Thank you my amazing wife @greyjumper, who is an incredible mother to our daughter, and has been amazing during her maternity leave - a very hard act for me to follow

Also - everyone at @WileyGlobal has been massively supportive and helpful with this. It's still uncommon and often unexpected for dads to take half the available parental leave, but management, HR and my teammates have all been brilliant.

I made a little game-thing last night! It is short, and will play in your browser and on mobile. mulac.itch.io/rain-night

Gig news! Emperors of the Moon have two gigs as part of Oxford Folk Festival this Friday. Covered market at 3.45pm, Old Fire Station at 6.30pm. Come see me, @Kastrel, @rorypfm and Louis Thurman doing our musical things. Mostly entirely different songs in each set, come to both!

It's nice having a baby daughter who is mostly calmed by Extremely Loud Classic Rock. An excellent excuse to go back to albums I haven't listened to in years.
I appear to have a baby who doesn’t like calm music. Does she find singer song writer stuff calming? Nope. Does she enjoy ambient music? Piano music? The soothing tones of a gently read audiobook? Not a chance. 70s Canadian rock band Rush at full volume? Calms her every time…

Ha, amazing, our estate agents just sent us a marketing email bragging about how high their rents are. Pretty sure they meant to send that one to the landlords, not the tenants.

Unnerved by how many people are commenting on the Steven Wilson Christmas-song-with-ChatGPT-lyrics thing, saying that they like the lyrics I get that it was mostly a technical exercise, & Wilson lyrics are mostly an afterthought anyway. But these are clearly words from a machine

Here's more than 100 songs that came out this year that I liked. Best on shuffle. I might get round to doing an ordered fifty best list, I might not. open.spotify.com/playlist/5d…

Didn't really get on with Riddley Walker - was probably in the wrong headspace when I read it - but this is something else entirely.

I quite like the new Peter Gabriel. But I feel weirdly strongly that it's a dereliction of duty to provide two subtly different mixes of an album and ask the listener to pick between them. You're an artist! Make the decision!

Reshelving the books, so they’re no longer organised by which exam paper they would have appeared on at university, which feels like personal growth.

Lot of haunted houses in there, some more literal than others
