Power arises from narrative control, and narrative control arises from sympathy.
Israel and its supporters are notorious for always playing the victim at every opportunity. But being perceived as the victim has no value in and of itself — what has value is sympathy. It is sympathy that they’re after. Victim-LARPing is just a means toward that end.
If you’ve ever known anybody with a personality disorder that inclines them toward manipulative behavior, you may have noticed that one of the main things they manipulate in people is their sympathy. They do everything they can to draw as much sympathy toward themselves while working to kill off any sympathy that people might have toward their perceived enemies. They’ll sacrifice almost any piece on their psychosocial chessboard in order to control a bit more of the sympathy among the people in their life.
They do this because sympathy is a fundamental primer to belief. If you sympathize with someone, you are much more likely believe the things they say and trust their narratives about what’s going on. If you lack sympathy for someone, then anything they say is going to be viewed with much more skepticism.
This is just how humans are wired as a social animal. We’re evolutionarily conditioned to place more trust in people we perceive as belonging to our own tribe than we place in those outside it — those within our group are the ones with whom we sympathize. That’s why for example you’ll see Trump supporters start voicing opinions they’d never held before as soon as Trump and his MAGA pundits take a certain position on a given issue; they sympathize with the source, so they espouse its position on that issue.
A good manipulator understands this, so they do everything they can to make sure everyone is sympathetic toward them and unsympathetic toward anyone whose interests conflict with theirs. That’s why we’re still talking about October 7 even after 16 months of genocidal atrocities and ethnic cleansing plans. Israel and its apologists throughout western governments and media have been working diligently to draw sympathy toward Israel for those killed and abducted on October 7, and to stomp out all sympathy for the orders of magnitude more Palestinians who’ve been killed and abducted by Israel. This has allowed narratives which serve the interests of Israel to dominate the mainstream western consensus on this issue, thereby bringing in concrete material benefits like weapons, bulldozers, the weakening of Israel’s enemies, and the eventual replacement of Palestinians with Israeli Jews on what used to be Palestinian territory.
So you can see how victim-LARPing leads to sympathy, sympathy leads to believed narratives, and believed narratives lead to concrete material benefits. All skillful manipulators understand this dynamic and use it in their own lives; the only thing that differs is the specific narratives they use and the material benefits they’re trying to extract. One manipulator might use sympathy to extract sexual favors from women and deference from men. Another might use it to extract money or resources. Another might use it for status in their social circle. It’s on a different scale and has different objectives, but the dynamic is the same.
Normal people don’t typically understand this, so we’re highly susceptible to these kinds of manipulations because they tend to fly under our radar. Normal people place a lot more value on telling the truth and doing what’s right than highly manipulative people do, because normal people prioritize human connection much more highly than manipulators do. Normal people use language to communicate and understand and connect with each other, while manipulators use it to extract material benefits. These are two drastically different ways of relating to one’s social environment, and normal people are often completely unaware that the other way of relating is even a feature for some of the people in their lives. This makes them ideal targets for manipulation.
That’s what you’re seeing when Israel cries victim about October 7. It’s what you see when Israel supporters shriek about an entirely made-up crisis of “antisemitism” in our society. It’s what you see when the propaganda machine for the western empire frames its enemies as the evil perpetrators of “unprovoked” aggressions to which the empire is just an innocent passive witness, or when they try to generate sympathy for the poor oppressed people living under this or that evil dictatorship that happens to be sitting on top of a lot of oil. They’re manipulating public sympathy so they can control the narrative, so that by controlling the narrative they can advance their material agendas.
Israel and its supporters understand the power of narrative control better than most. That’s why they have a carefully cultivated discipline dedicated to narrative control with its own special name: hasbara. Hasbara is all about manipulating the narrative about Israel in mainstream public discourse.
The real currency of our world is not money or resources, nor gold, nor even weapons. The real currency of our world is narrative and the ability to control it, because if you can control the narrative, you can control everyone.
The average human life is dominated by mental stories, so if you can control the stories that humans are telling each other about their world, you can control the humans.
If you’ve ever tried to meditate, then you know how pervasively dominated human consciousness is by mental chatter. Our minds are constantly babbling about how things are, how we are, how the people around us are, and what’s going on. If you can exert control over how this powerful deluge of mental narrative is occurring for large numbers of people regarding an issue you’ve got a vested interest in, then you have a much better chance of advancing your interests than someone who does not. You have a lot of real power.
Mountains of abuses exist in our world because manipulators understand this dynamic while normal people do not. The strings of our sympathy are continually jerked around without our awareness, by which we are herded into belief systems which advance the interests of the powerful.
That’s why it’s very important to withhold sympathy wherever it’s being weaponized. If someone is using a weapon to hurt people, your first order of business is to take their weapon away from them. You really can’t cede any ground to Israel apologists when they try to tug at your heartstrings about the victims of October 7 or fake “antisemitism” emergencies in western society, because any sympathy you extend in that direction will be used as a weapon to murder and abuse people in the middle east who’ve never done anything to you.
Whoever controls the narrative controls the world, and whoever controls sympathy controls the narrative. Never give manipulators that power over people.

Enough is enough. The UK's biggest trade union
@unisontheunion no longer supports women who don't want to undress in front of men at work. The Darlington Nurses have therefore faced no alternative but to start their own union to protect women in the workplace.
Their case, supported by the Christian Legal Centre, began when a man without warning, identifying as 'Rose' and backed by an NHS policy, began using the female changing room at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
The nurses raised concerns with HR, but instead of being supported, were told they needed to ‘broaden their mindset’ be more ‘inclusive’, 'compromise' and get 're-educated.'
The Darlington Nursing Union (DNU) is believed to be the first of its kind and has now been launched with three founding principles:
🚨Equality and respect for all workers regardless of their protected characteristics (including both gender reassignment and biological sex).
🚨Securing and defending workers’ rights, dignity and decency at the workplace (including in particular access to safe single-sex areas for changing and hygiene, and protecting women from inappropriate exposure to members of the opposite biological sex).
🚨The right to raise concerns about any genuine workplace issues without fear of retribution, and to have such concerns addressed promptly, constructively and reasonably.
The union is free and it can run alongside any other union membership. It is also not just for nurses and any healthcare professional can join.
If you are a worker who believes in biology, not trans ideology, and want women's spaces protected, don't suffer in silence, get in touch and join the Darlington Nursing Union (DNU).
Direct messages are open or contact info@darlingtonnursingunion.uk .

"Wes Streeting condemns wiping of trans doctors’ records
‘Extremely concerning’ that gender-change medics could have wrongdoings erased by watchdog, says Health Secretary
Laura Donnelly Health Editor. George Chesterton
20 February 2025 9:30pm GMT
Wes Streeting has raised concerns after a Telegraph investigation found that doctors who change gender are able to have past wrongdoings scrubbed from the public record.
The Health Secretary said the General Medical Council (GMC), which regulates doctors, should urgently overhaul its practices, adding the situation should “not have been allowed”.
The GMC holds a public register of all doctors, allowing the public to check whether a medic has been subject to restrictions or suspensions, or has been struck off.
However, on Thursday the watchdog admitted that it erases the public disciplinary history of doctors who change their gender identities.
It raises the prospect that medics seeking to hide a chequered disciplinary history could exploit the system by choosing to change their gender identity in order to erase their past. It also means a female patient who specifically requested a female doctor would be unable to find out if their doctor was born a man.
Wes Streeting has called on the regulator to change its system
On Thursday night, Mr Streeting demanded immediate changes from the regulator. He told The Telegraph: “This is extremely concerning, and should not have been allowed to happen.
“It is completely within the power of the GMC to find a workaround for this that means transparency for patients, as well as protections in the Equality Act, are preserved. I expect them to make reassurances that they will address this.”
It came after The Telegraph revealed that when medics seek to change their gender status on the GMC record they can do so without any supporting evidence.
Such medics are issued with a new registration and a fresh GMC number. All public links on the watchdog’s register between old and new identities are erased, meaning that any historical misdemeanours, such as previous suspensions, are wiped from the slate.
One trans doctor, Dr Beth Upton, is at the centre of an employment tribunal against NHS Fife.
Nurse Sandie Peggie has said she was subjected to unlawful harassment by being made to share a changing room at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, with Dr Upton, who was born male but insisted on using the women’s changing room.

The watchdog has now confirmed that Dr Upton is one of 62 doctors to have been given new registrations under different GMC numbers.
The regulator said: “If a doctor had received a historical sanction [ie the suspension is no longer in place] prior to transitioning, this information would not be available on their new public-facing record on the medical register.”
This means current patients would be unable to see any details of their doctor’s previous identity by searching the GMC’s online database using the medic’s new name and number.
An upheld suspension against a doctor of more than three months would usually be recorded on GMC records for 15 years, with shorter suspensions recorded for 10 years.

How doctors who change gender could scrub past wrongdoing

The GMC was unable to tell The Telegraph whether any of the 62 doctors who have been issued with a new number had received any suspensions under their previous identity.
There is no suggestion that Dr Upton has faced any disciplinary action.
The loophole raises the prospect that those who wish to cover up previous sanctions could choose to exploit the system, and change their gender identity for that reason.
It follows a clampdown in prisons, where trans offenders were previously able to move to women-only jails, even if they had male genitalia and a history of sex crimes, until the rules were changed in 2023"

10 Reasons Why a Coercively Controlling Man is an Unfit Father

Vote Starmer, betray women’s rights.
I made my mind up about Keir Starmer's character years ago. It’s an account of what felt like intimidation by a senior barrister against a pupil barrister - me.
It’s a highly personal account I share now for the first time, as Sir Keir is poised to lead Labour into government. My experience may interest those keen to gain insight into the man’s character when he thinks no one that matters is looking.
Twenty-two years ago, I was a 32-year-old 'baby barrister'. It was 2002, and I had won one of four places at the prestigious Doughty Street Chambers (DCS) to complete my ‘2nd six’ - six months of training, the last hurdle before becoming a fully qualified practising barrister.
The second six months of pupillage is that heady moment when we pupil barristers rise to our feet for the first time in court to advocate for our lay client or on behalf of the state.
It’s an incredibly steep learning curve, which one is guided through by a pupil supervisor, pupil mistress, or master in old money. It’s a notoriously difficult and competitive process; in the end, pupils compete for a permanent tenancy or seat in chambers.
So, when DSC asked me who I wanted to guide me through pupillage and who I wanted as my pupil supervisor, I asked for Keir Starmer. I was ever so gently informed that Keir wasn’t taking pupils any longer. Honestly, I wouldn’t have been Keir Starmer pupil material. I just wasn’t good enough.
So, I requested one of the barristers who conducted my second interview at DSC, the brilliant Philippa Kaufmann. As it turned out, Kaufmann was Keir Starmer’s recent ex-long-term partner, and she agreed to be my pupil supervisor. I wasn’t Phillippa Kaufmann pupil material either, and I will always be grateful to her for taking me on nonetheless.
Like Keir, Philippa was on an apparent trajectory to the very top. Like Keir, both would soon take silk and become Queen’s Counsel, as it was known under the reign of Elizabeth II.
These were heady days, exciting and utterly terrifying. I was in awe of practically everything and everyone at DSC. I got to experience human rights law as practised by some of the finest barristers in the country.
Almost everyone at DSC was friendly and offered to help with any urgent questions or situations a newly qualified barrister was bound to need help navigating, with one standout exception — Keir Starmer.
Although I was at DSC for over two years and attended the big bash Keir threw when he took silk in 2002, which was entirely by convention, the pupils were automatically invited; Keir Starmer never once acknowledged me during all of that time, never said ‘hello’ that I can recall.
There are things you are strongly advised not to do as a pupil: don’t get drunk at chambers parties and don’t get a crush on your pupil supervisor. So, of course, I did both.
I fell in love with my pupil supervisor, Phillippa Kaufmann. It was ridiculous, of course, but at the time, it felt incredibly serious. Just like getting drunk at chambers parties, it was something that was known about at DSC.
One evening in chambers, I was in an otherwise empty clerks room at DSC with Phillippa doing some paperwork when we were joined, entirely by coincidence, first by Paul Brooks, who would become Phillippa’s partner and the father of her children and then Keir Starmer. It was awkward, and it was tense. No one was talking. No one was looking at each other. We just got on with whatever we were working on, sitting or standing a couple of feet away from each other. Keir Starmer seemed to me to be quite furious. We all sat silently: the ex-partner, the new partner to be, and the lesbian with a crush.
Sometime later that evening, I walked out of DSC onto Doughty Street. As I did so, I encountered Keir Starmer directly opposite, preparing to ride his bicycle away from chambers.
When he saw me, he stopped, faced me, and stood there glaring at me, saying not a word.
What do you do when you are a pupil and the leading barrister of his generation, a complete superstar, is apparently trying to intimidate you? I imagine the pupil’s handbook would tell me to walk away, now.
I stopped, faced him, and glared right back, saying nothing.
There we stood, staring each other down from across Doughty Street - Keir Starmer and a lowly pupil, for what felt like minutes.
There are some things no amount of education can teach you. I may not have grasped the intricacies of human rights law, but I knew how to stand my ground in the face of what I saw as this man’s attempt to intimidate me.
Kier Starmer eventually gave up, hopped on his bicycle and cycled away - and only then did I walk away.
Whatever Sir Keir’s many achievements, I will never forget the character of the man I encountered that evening on Doughty Street.
Despite this, I would vote for Keir Starmer’s Labour if I believed that women’s rights and lesbian rights were safe in his hands at this pivotal moment in history, but I don’t.
I predict that Keir Starmer will sell women and lesbians down the river unless we make it politically impossible for him to do so. We have formed alliances across political lines. This is our great strength. Let us bring it to bear now.
