Today, 12th October, we remember St Edwin of Northumbria (c. 586–633), Anglo-Saxon king, Christian convert and martyr of the early English Church 🏴
Edwin ruled Northumbria during the 7th century and became one of the most powerful kings in Anglo-Saxon England. Originally a pagan, he embraced Christianity through the influence of his wife, Queen Æthelburh, and the missionary St Paulinus. On Easter Sunday in 627, Edwin was baptised at York in a wooden church dedicated to St Peter, on the site of the present York Minster. His conversion helped establish Christianity throughout Northumbria. Under his protection, Paulinus preached, baptised and founded Christian communities across the kingdom.
On 12th October 633, Edwin was killed at the Battle of Hatfield Chase, fighting against the combined forces of the pagan King Penda of Mercia and Cadwallon of Gwynedd. Following his death, Edwin was venerated as a Christian martyr, and his remains were associated with York and Whitby.
His feast day is observed on 12th October, remembering one of England's earliest Christian kings and his role in bringing the Christian faith to northern England🏴

Happy Columbus Day!
Did you know we get the modern word for "cannibal" from Christopher Columbus?
During his voyages in the West Indes, Columbus encountered a tribe called the Carib which he called the "Caniba". The Carib were a war like people who would frequently invade their neighboring tribes, kidnap the women and eat the men.
The Spanish, being a God fearing Christian people, were disgusted by the evil practice of cannibalism and quickly moved to squash the Carib, largely subjugating them by the end of the 16th century.
I think we can all agree that cannibalism has no place in the world and we owe Columbus a debt of gratitude for his role in bringing civilization to the new world.

If Leif Erikson Day were an observed day off, and Columbus Day stayed one, 2026 would hand us a four-day weekend. October 9 falls on a Friday and Columbus Day lands on Monday the 12th, so Friday through Monday would be free. It will almost certainly never happen—Leif Erikson Day is only an observance, not a federal holiday—but the calendar lines up neatly enough that it’s a fun thing to notice.

Milei just told the UN the truth to its face.
It failed at peace, then built a bureaucratic Leviathan to dictate how nations live. Soft on dictators and terrorists. Hard on the democracies that follow the rules.
Agenda 2030. Gender politics. Climate extremism. Open borders. Then they doubled down with Agenda 2045.
Worst: pandemic lockdowns that crushed jobs, wrecked kids’ education, and left millions to die alone. Not a health error. A control experiment. Fear was the weapon. The emergency ended. The power didn’t.
That’s a leader. Not a diplomat reading talking points.
Milei called the UN a caste of fatally arrogant parasites to their faces yesterday.
(it’s true)
He said the organization is useless, that it sheltered dictatorships, let terrorism flourish, and spent fifty years passing Falklands resolutions that produced no consequences whatsoever.
He called pandemic lockdowns a global experiment in social control disguised as science.
He said the UN built a bureaucratic leviathan designed to control citizens’ lives beyond the mandate its founders gave it.
On AI, he pledged minimal regulation, limited liability, and tax incentives instead of the pre-emptive oversight frameworks Europe is racing to impose.
He closed by declaring Argentina unequivocally aligned with the West.
But for some people, he’s not “libertarian” enough.
