Heartbreaking news out of Calgary this afternoon. A serious collision between two buses has left multiple people dead and many more injured.
My sincere thoughts are with the families of those who died and with everyone injured.
Our first responders were on scene within minutes and are still working. I thank them for their immediate response, and thank the doctors and hospital staff who are now caring for these patients.

Stan Grad chaired Alberta's air ambulance service for 14 years, on top of building Canada's largest seedstock cattle operation and selling an oil and gas company that made the TSE 300. That's what an Alberta builder actually looks like. Rest well, Stan.

In the past few years I have been to Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC.
The best city to visit is probably Calgary. You can rent a car for cheap and see everything from mountains to badlands to river floats within a one hour drive.

Today, the Calgary Stampede proudly unveiled the 2027 Stampede Poster, ‘Best Seat in the House’, created by 23-year-old Alberta artist Keagan George.
Keagan’s electrifying artwork captures bull rider Hayes Weight of Goshen, Utah, aboard Judge and Jury during the 2025 Calgary Stampede Rodeo, bringing the power, movement and edge-of-your-seat excitement of the Rodeo to life.
Selected through the Calgary Stampede Youth Poster Competition, Keagan is the ninth Alberta youth to have their artwork featured on the official Stampede Poster since the competition began in 2018.
The 2027 Stampede Poster marks the beginning of the countdown to Stampede 2027, taking place July 9-18.

Calgary has the venues, the festivals, the songwriters and the audiences. Now it just needs a push to turn all of that into an even bigger industry.
That is what I went to Nashville to learn about. They did not become the music capital of the world by accident. They built it deliberately over decades, and the people who run it were happy to tell me how.
Calgary can be Nashville North. The talent is already here. Now let’s build it.

The first pancake flip of the Calgary Stampede is officially in the books!
It was fun testing the pancake tossing skills with a few other seasoned flippers 🥞
Ten days of Stampede calls for a proper breakfast... and a few wholesome calories to get you started.

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
When I was alone, walking north on the trail for months at a time, I had plenty of time to think about home. Every mile reminded me how fortunate I was to have grown up in Canada, and how grateful I was to be coming back.
My dad arrived here as a refugee. My family built a life through hard work and the opportunities this country made possible. Canada isn't perfect, but it has given generations the chance to build something better. That's a promise worth protecting, and one we all have a responsibility to pass on.
To me, Canada is at its best when everyone has the chance to belong and contribute. Whether your family has lived on this land since time immemorial, you arrived generations ago, or you came here seeking a new beginning, your story is part of our shared story. No matter where you came from, who you love, or how you worship, we are stronger when we choose to build a better future together.
Happy Canada Day, Calgary. Happy Canada Day, Canada.

⚠️ The Calgary Fire Department is advising Calgarians to stay off the Bow and Elbow Rivers due to unsafe conditions caused by rising water levels 🌧️🌊
River flow rates have exceeded safe thresholds (Bow River above 280 m³/s and Elbow River above 50 m³/s), making all activities on the water dangerous. Fast-moving water, cold temperatures, poor visibility, and increased debris significantly raise the risk of being swept away or trapped.
Everyone near the river should take extra care:
• Reschedule all river activities until the advisory is lifted
• Talk to children about the dangers of fast-moving water
• Watch for low-lying pathways that may be flooded or submerged
• Keep pets away from the river 🐕
While widespread flooding is not expected, localized flooding is possible and conditions can change quickly.
Visit calgary.ca/watersafety for more information as well as calgary.ca/flood for the latest information on river conditions. Visit calgary.ca/pathwayclosures for up-to-date information on pathway closures.
We will continue to monitor conditions and share updates when it is safe to return.

Lost in all the drama of the last 24 hours are the feelings and genuine disappointment of the thousands of people who had tickets to Country Thunder this weekend; many travelling from across Canada and beyond. Flights, hotels, Airbnbs, and reservations already booked. Plans made to see friends and family and enjoy one of Calgary’s great venues.
From the Ward 14 office, we are sorry. We can’t fix this weekend, but we will do everything in our power to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Permits should be issued weeks or months in advance. Organizers deserve certainty. And critical meetings about emergency vehicle access shouldn’t be happening in the final days before the gates open.
In the meantime, we hope you can still enjoy time with the friends and family you came to see. A little rain never stopped a good Calgary weekend. There’s still plenty going on, indoors and out; live music, markets, patios, museums, and family-friendly activities. Check Tourism Calgary’s full events calendar at visitcalgary.com
