Hard to believe this is finally out, made possible by the leadership of @m_osterwalder and wonderful collaboration with Marco and 26 other colleagues. Thanks to @LenPennacchio and @AxelVisel for being so supportive of the collaboration since 2017 (!).
It's a great pleasure that our study about the regulatory role of the Shox2 gene desert – a non-coding genomic region with multiple critical functions in embryogenesis - is finally out! #unibern #UCalgary #BerkeleyLab

Our part of this story began in 2011 when @AbassahOppong agreed to delete the LHB enhancer near the Shox2 gene as part of his PhD project. In those naive days, we thought this would explain how Shox2 expression is controlled in limbs. It turned out to be more complicated. . .
Big thanks to @carlyssullivan, Tabitha Festa-Daroux and Anja Itum for important contributions from our lab on the limb part of the story!

Midnight surprise appearance of aurora borealis from Christiansen Point on the North Coast Trail, Cape Scott Provincial Park, Vancouver Island.
Looking Glass Rock, North Carolina. Still discovering Appalachian beauty spots after all these years.
13th edition of Barresi and Gilbert's Developmental Biology looks very nice, but still missing a Hox gene . . . #RespectforHoxb13 #InHoxWeTrust
Very nice to get the latest edition of Barresi and Gilbert's Developmental Biology textbook with the beautiful image of a human embryo from @BrivanlouLab on the cover. Also feeling a little old since I started teaching from the 8th edition.
Wow, thanks for the joy @Wilco. Such a great show in Calgary tonight after a 30 month Covid delay.

Great seeing the data on SHOX and SHOX2 in your study! Especially, since you can't get the former from a mouse!
We are excited to announce our preprint on the spatial cell atlas of the entire human embryonic limb💪🦵biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
We reveal the orchestral of genes during limb development in space and time, which also yields disease implication and mouse-human evolutionary insight
