ALT Flat Stanley helped me to fix this machine. It is called an x-ray photoelectron spectrometer. It looks at special materials used in touch screens and solar panels. These materials are called nanomaterials - they are very, very small. The machine uses a discovery by a very famous scientist called Einstein called the "photoelectric effect". Einstein was so clever that he could do science experiments in his head and won a special prize, called the Nobel prize. He also had crazy hair.

ALT At lunch time we sat at the beach with Flat Stanley. Swansea is a city on the Coast, so the sea is always nearby. Even when you are at work or the university. It was a very important in the past, making lots of copper. Legend says that fierce warriors called the Vikings first built Swansea as a port for their boats.

ALT Here Flat Stanley is investigating this building. We use it to test new green technologies. There are lots of experimental features such as these new solar panels.

ALT Flat Stanley also visited the x-ray lab. These are copies of things that have been x-ray imaged in the AIM lab at Swansea University. The blue one in a cats skull 💀 from a Egyptian tomb. The green one is Professor Johnston's brain. The brown one is a woodlouse - made big to be easy to see. The pink one is an ancient cobra found by archaeologists.
