El Niño es un fenómeno meteorológico natural causado por el calentamiento de las aguas del océano Pacífico. Puede aumentar la probabilidad de que se produzcan tormentas fuertes en algunas zonas de California. Las tormentas fuertes pueden provocar lluvias intensas, inundaciones, deslizamientos de tierra, cortes de electricidad, cierres de carreteras e interrupciones en los servicios y el cuidado. El Niño aumenta el riesgo de condiciones meteorológicas severas, pero no significa que todas las zonas se verán afectadas.

El Estado de Emergencia ayuda a California a: Planificar con los gobiernos locales y tribales y compartir información. Obtener más rápidamente los suministros, equipos y servicios necesarios. Trasladar los suministros para combatir inundaciones y otros recursos a los lugares donde puedan ser necesarios. Agilizar las labores que pueden reducir las inundaciones, los deslizamientos de tierra y otros riesgos. El Estado de Emergencia no significa que ya haya ocurrido un desastre. Tampoco proporciona automáticamente asistencia en caso de desastre ni ayuda económica a las personas y familias.

Working with local partners, Caltrans recently cleared this encampment along I-8 near Camino Del Rio South in San Diego. The two people living here were offered services. Crews removed ten cubic yards of debris, enough to fill four full-size pickup trucks.
