That’s why discernment matters. Money can build the house. It cannot protect the soul living inside it.
A spouse can chase wealth, status and influence so aggressively that the family slowly loses peace, unity, prayer and trust. You don't have to label every tragedy as witchcraft to take spiritual danger seriously.
• Pray over your home.
• Guard your marriage.
• Watch what you permit into your family.
• Don't sacrifice your children's peace on the altar of money.
Because the physical world is not the whole battlefield.
And some people are busy counting money while heaven is watching what they're becoming.

It's a fun question without a right answer.
I think instead of looking for a number, go through the below considerations as a guide to your unique emergency fund number:
1) If you get laid off today, how long realistically will it take you to land a job again? 3 months, maybe 6 months? You should be able to cover your most critical expenses during this period without taking on debt. The same goes for if your partner gets laid of today, can you cope?
2) Your partner and dependents. Do you have a partner that is currently unemployed? Do you have independents? If yes, I'd build in a considerable margin of safety.
3) Do you have short term insurance and/or medical aid? If not, you would have to account for potentially large claims.
4) How much debt do you have currently? Depending on the cost and size of your debt, I might be in favour of focusing on that first before building out your emergency fund.
5) Lastly, I think we have all a number in our head that would give us peace of mind. You know based on your current lifestyle if R50k or R500k is enough - refine it from there.
There is no generally correct number, it is all on you.

Every time she applies for a decent job, a background check shows she’s already a director of a multimillion-rand infrastructure firm. Employers assume she’s either loaded or involved in something shady and pass.
She may have been rejected for years not because she lacked qualifications, but because someone used her name to tick a BEE box and commit government fraud.
She’s scanning groceries while the people who actually run the company live large off public money using her name. This isn’t just fronting. It’s another form of identity theft that steals someone’s future.

I finally understand what Machiavelli meant when he said, "Never play fair in a game where others cheat." It doesn't mean become evil. It means stop being naive. Stop bringing honesty to people who study manipulation, stop giving access to people who weaponize closeness, and stop expecting clean hands from people who already showed you they'll throw dirt.
