Burberry burned $36,500,000 of clothes in one year. Not because they couldn't sell them. Because they didn't want YOU to have them. The disturbing truth about luxury's dirtiest secret🧵

My little brother asked me why everything suddenly seems so fucked - and this is about as simple an answer as I could give.

1. This paper in Nature should spell an end to the nonsense spread by @AllanRSavory et al: that livestock grazing can cause a net removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. It shows that soil carbon cannot compensate for livestock’s own emissions. nature.com/articles/s41467-0… 🧵

The #KingsSpeech was an opportunity to set out a vision for the future: to bring down energy bills, cut emissions & restore nature. Instead, the government is failing to act #ForOurWorld – a decision that will cost us all for generations to come.🚨 theguardian.com/politics/202…

The most shocking thing about Holly Willoughby quitting This Morning is that WE ARE IN A CLIMATE EMERGENCY AND RISHI SUNAK HAS APPROVED THE ROSEBANK OIL FIELD.

Well that escalated quickly! From one person threatened with prison for holding a sign with the law on it, to 24 holding the same sign this summer, to 240 people across the country today. Looks like this campaign will be increasingly difficult to halt or contain.
1. BREAKING: TODAY, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE NATIONWIDE replicate the action of #TrudiWarner, the 68 year-old retired social worker, threatened with prison for upholding the law on a sign 🧵

Senior Tories question Rishi Sunak’s decision to push green targets to 2030 and beyond, as all he has to do is wait until next year and it becomes Labour’s problem anyway.

The tabloids: Climate activists are protesting the wrong way, they’re disrupting the lives of ordinary working people. Greenpeace: Ok, well we’ll protest at one of the Prime ministers houses then after he signed off 100 new oil & gas licences. The Tabloids: NOT LIKE THAT! šŸ˜‚

Burning all Rosebank’s oil and gas would create more CO2 than the combined annual emissions of all 28 low-income countries in the world. @RishiSunak this will be devastating for our planet [and your reputation on the global stage]. šŸŒ #StopRosebank

Though it keeps failing, it would be wrong to say that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) doesn’t work. It works precisely as intended, even if it never materialises: it is a highly successful method of buying more time for the fossil fuel industry. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

It’s a funny old world… I’m now (unwittingly) fundraising for the Tory party. Check out this incredible e-mail fundraiser from @RishiSunak. He refers to me an eco zealot and eco fanatic, should I be flattered to have his attention? Nah I’d prefer he focussed on solving some of the issues the last 13 years of shambolic @Conservatives government have landed us with. I find the whole thing quite hilarious, not least for this claim: ā€œWhile @UKLabour rely on the finances of eco-fanatics like Dale Vince, we rely on the support of ordinary people like yourself.ā€ Since when did the Tories rely on ordinary people for their funding….:) They boast of tough new laws and 144 new arrests, which seemed a bit underwhelming to me given the threat to life as we know it which they describe. And it’s signed, not just Rishi Sunak - but ā€˜PM of the UK’ - for those that aren’t really sure what he does, which I suspect is a lot of people… So there it is, I now help raise funds for the Tories… It’s quite mad and shows how desperate they are to make the climate their new favourite villain in the forever culture wars they fight.

Greta is like a mythic superhero. While still in her teens, she has changed the global conversation on climate, changed the global conversation on neurodiversity and taken out the world's most toxic misogynist. It's only a matter of time before Marvel makes the movie.
