There hasn't been a center left mayor + council in Surrey this millennium actually. Doug McCallum has name recognition for being 82 years old. Basically right wing Lula in Brazil. Brenda Locke has kind of been a bitch. There isn't much difference in ideology between the two.

Ken Sim managed to do what the BC Election Act forbids parties from doing: co-ordinate spending on advertizing. COPE, One City and the Greens couldn’t tie their campaigns together. Only Ken Sim could do that for them.
