Easy to re-imagine how this sort of set up could change the pastoral landscape for the better!
And silvopasture/wood pasture
Using things like @CactusTreeGuard
I’m glad we did that work
But when you transform your fields with grassland restoration and regen grazing…
It’s awesome
Yep, I’m proud of this place
I think it looks and is epic
And it’s only just starting

Context Matters =
Natural England wants to cut grazing numbers to meet habitat recovery targets. Farmers say the cuts are so extreme they’d wipe out most herds over time. The animals wouldn’t be “culled”, they’d be sold off, rehomed, or the herds would slowly shrink.

Exciting to work with SAS Agri Drones to spread Regenus fungi pellets on two of our Be The Change Farms.
For a small, trial area the drone is perfect:
✅ Quick, precise application
✅ No soil compaction
✅ Target hard-to-reach areas
✅ Adapts to the new products

Taking it to another level to restore farmed landscapes to multi-functional landscapes more in harmony with nature. We should see a lot more of this if Landscape Recovery is well funded. Not a threat, but an opportunity for farmers to give back….and be contented!
Been a good summer for sunflowers . This wild bird mixes backed by abundant hawthorn berries should help out some birds this winter.

The trip to Northern Ireland was awesome. Very friendly folk, engaging talks, great food and a lot of Guinness was drunk.
Also fields and fields of GREEN grass and folk silage making………

💬 “We host Carbon Calling every year here and you want to be able to give people the data to prove what you’re actually feeling is changing.”

Finding some useful shade under the cactus guarded trees and shrubs . Here oak partners with hawthorn and dog rose. The impact after just 3 summers is meaningful and rewarding for the cattle and me!
Just received my ChirrupAI bird recorder….where else would l put it?! Perfect protection from cattle.
We’ve had no rain to mention since February. I believe we are seeing the benefits of a few years of rotational grazing/ long rest. Here deep rooted cocksfoot is a winner.

And there are some cool hacks like @CactusTreeGuard and railed cages so you can create a savannah in a grazed farmed landscape

Don’t cancel the SFI. Don’t pull the rug from under farmers who desire to improve their land for the benefit of nature. Don’t set us back another 5 years in the transition to nature friendly farming

Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Duit As we reflect🎄 on the year that has passed, we are grateful for the growing interest and support for agroforestry in Ireland. We look forward to continuing sharing knowledge + connecting farmers, researchers + policymakers in 2025

I wrote this 2 days BEFORE Defra put a halt to the capital grants available to farmers for environmental works on farms. So that is less new hedgerows and trees planted, less protection of waterways and, more importantly, even less trust of what the government says.
My latest column for @FarmersGuardian
I’m trying not to focus solely on the Inheritance Tax changes, especially when there’s enough other f-ups from government to fill 10 columns each wk!
Funding cuts, increased legislation, grant & stewardship delays
Who’d be a farmer eh?!
