Is this really the time to use Mass Effect to demonstrate your own lack of media literacy? Maybe it's wiser to complain about how Star Trek turned woke for a bit until the heat dies down?
SPECTRE HAUNTING EUROPE SPOTTED: children sing of the downfall of neoliberalism, the virtuous Melenchon has the mandate of heaven
Cameron Scally retweeted
Remarkable number of bots trashing Melenchon's fundamental truth. 'Markets' aren't simply people trading with each other. We've long known about 'market power', the big 'whales' disproportionately influencing prices. In financial markets, the big players Melenchon identifies can manipulate the 'price of money' as transferable credit and threaten governments with higher borrowing costs, inflation, currency depreciation and capital flight. There's nothing 'natural' about this - 'market forces', 'invisible hand' blah blah. Look up how the traders do it - bond/FX sell offs, 'fake money' repos and derivatives, libor manipulation etc.
But the original issuers of all this money traded in financial markets are governments, central banks and licensed commercial banks. Hedge funds and the rest can't legally issue currency. A true financial revolution wouldn't be crypto - a massive con, even more freedom for 'big whales' - but international agreements to crowd out these loan sharks with public investment through central, regional and community banks, issue non-tradable bonds (eventually none at all) and erect capital controls. Pensions? - increase state pensions to make private pensions unnecessary. It's eminently possible to end 4,400 years of debt bondage to institutionalised private loan sharks and begin to invest and spend where it's really needed, profitable or not. Money as credit must be a public utility in democratically managed mixed economies. Wonga International must die. Spread the word.
French Presidential Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon:
They tell us, "We must reassure the markets." Reassure the markets? What are their names? Where do they live? Let me go and reassure them!
What market? What are you talking about? There is no market. There are hedge funds, financial companies and insurance companies.
This made me physically sick

DEATH BECOMES YOU: DRONES, PART 3
We close out our series discussing how drone warfare advanced a new military ethics in which the lives of combatants are sacrosanct, while civilian lives are expendable.

Americans would presume they invented air and water if their schools hadn't explicitly explained otherwise

The blunt is a very American thing and a spliff is a very British thing but a joint that’s just weed
No need to change the names around
"wah wah he's threatening to prosecute his political opponents"
His political opponents are criminals! You expect him to let that slide because they're also fascists?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
L'entretien d'Emmanuel Moulin au Financial Times ne cite ni Mélenchon ni ses propositions et n'appelle pas les spéculateurs à sanctionner la France. Il alerte sur les risques d'une hausse des taux sans redressement des finances publiques.

Idk quite how a Tory policy from 2011, explicitly designed to assure their elderly base that they alone would be safe from the austerity they voted for, has been embedded in our minds as a vital part of the welfare state and last bastion of universalism?

"It's not terrorism when we do it!"
Replying to @dredgedskeleton
You're calling all civilian deaths caused by US military action "terrorist," which is insane. Regardless, the US number is, according to your own screenshot, maybe 40-50x the Al Qaeda number, while the US military was 1000x bigger than Al Qaeda was in the 1990s and 2000s. So pound-for-pound Al Qaeda has been, as I said, far more deadly.
'It shouldn’t be reduced to generic “separatism"'
Then stop doing that 🤷♂️
This isn't *quite* "making up a guy to get mad at" territory but I do find it pretty wearing how often that fairly marginal type of guy is wielded as an excuse to ignore everyone else
