Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Afghanistan war, a nearly two-decade-long occupation that instead should have been a swift operation. Thousands of U.S. troops died during that period. Mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. May we remember the sacrifices they made.

The vote is today. Senate Bill 475 and House Bill 1019 would fast-track a 90-day suspension of Ohio's motor fuel tax to lower soaring pump prices. Speaker Johnson is right that the Iran War needs to be brought to a resolution. Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to help make that happen. This summer, the U.S. House passed H. Con. Res 89 to end the war, and we encourage the U.S. Senate to vote yes on this same resolution during today's roll call vote. After months of fighting, American service members and their families deserve more than an open-ended conflict without clear authorization from their elected representatives. Before war, Congress has a constitutional role to debate the mission before us, and decide whether military action serves America’s interests. The path forward should be clear: bring this conflict to an end, pursue diplomacy, and ensure decisions of war and peace receive the congressional scrutiny the Constitution demands.
