I’m excited to introduce a project I’ve been working on with @ryderkessler: Abundance New York. We are a political community building a New York with more: more than enough homes, public transit, green space, clean energy. More than enough for everyone. abundanceny.substack.com/p/a…

A Scaramucci was a measure of time.
A Zacharia is more ethereal; a measure of being, a disconnect between one’s story and one's purpose, the distance between what you’ve lived and what you're doing at present.
Beautiful really.
Plot twist, the store owner/magician with no media training is also the author of Dragons Love Tacos!? This revelation might divide my household
Hi @kellyclarkson I talked to Art Of Play co-owner Adam Rubin who wants to send you this message in part “We hold no ill will against Kelly Clarkson, we invite her to come back and enjoy the store. But, we find her gross abuse of power completely reprehensible, and she should face social consequences.” @1010WINS let us know if we can interview you to follow-up.

I’m not the first one to say it, but it is notable that the people who constantly talk about the Third Worldification of America are the doing brazen corruption and nepotism, gaudy golden decorations and public executions
The U.S. military plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the ex-Army major who was convicted of the 2009 killing of 13 people at Fort Hood, when he faces a firing squad on Dec. 3, a Pentagon official said.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier Thursday the Pentagon planned to make the execution public.
Hasan's case could mark the military's first execution of an American service member since 1961.

1/ Every law the NYC Council passes is public. Reading them means digging through Legistar's PDFs and Word files. So I built trackers that read every local law since 2014 for you, and they now include a third: the powers the Council gives city agencies. nycuriosity.com/p/i-built-to…

Terrific to see the mayor prioritize civil service reform. No one can say it's just about the videos. If he and his partners show real flexibility, they can move toward the public excellence New York deserves. More in the links.

Perfect timing to revisit last week's @abundance_ny Substack piece by @CV0 about civil service, digging into the real harms to New Yorkers caused by understaffing.
She shares lessons from what we've been able to do right in emergencies. Now we need better rules for every day 👇
Exclusive: the Mamdani administration will take a swing at reforming NYC's civil service system — the first serious effort by any recent mayor to revamp the antiquated, 142-year-old system that critics say deters talent and worsens staffing shortages:

I fully support BIDs (I'm an alum of @DowntownBklyn) and I do agree that the Northside is probably overdue for one.
But the solution for every dirty street can't be a BID, at some point baseline city services have to catch up to reality.
BIDs are for *supplemental* services.
We need a business improvement district on the Northside of Williamsburg. A BID will help keep our streets clean, organize great community events, promote local businesses & more.
VOTE HERE: bit.ly/cleannorthside and attend one of our upcoming community meetings!

Why have emergency response times risen for 4 straight years while SNAP and cash assistance processing lagged? A key reason: understaffing.
On Substack, @CV0 explains how civil service reform can help NYC prevent crises before they happen.

I really think this sickening system of shoving children in front of a judge in a courtroom, assisted legally by nobody else, to be told that they are to be wrenched away from their families and ejected from the U.S., is a form of child torture and torment. No other way to see it

Never been to the opera before?
Now’s your chance. We’re giving away 70,000 free tickets to the @MetOpera at the iconic Lincoln Center. Go to on.nyc.gov/opera to enter the lottery. There’s not a bad seat in the house.

you're obsessed with the lesbian bar's mask policy because of woke.
i'm obsessed with the lesbian bar's mask policy because it reveals the psychotic levels of entitlement bred by stakeholder-veto culture and participatory democracy.

There is something so unbelievably bleak about an article that calmly walks readers through how to navigate being laid off after 50, losing your health insurance, and somehow surviving the years until Medicare. What a broken country.

Of the many Takes on the NHJ piece, I appreciated this one the most - we don’t have to be defeatist about all urban public schools and parents _can_ improve school offerings without causing Nice White Parents-style controversy.
I am also a parent who has opted not to peergroup-max by son’s education and for a whole bunch of reasons I feel like it’s been a pretty different outcome than what NHJ describes.
