I am *thrilled* to announce I am a co-investigator on a DoD-funded study of the effects of #zika infection in rodent & marmoset models of pregnancy. I will analyze structure & function of the marmoset placenta in response to infection and protective countermeasures. #teamplacenta

How do people think about other minds? That depends on which population you study. WEIRD people are missing a social relationships factor (compared to Fijians). Great work by cultural evolutionary psychologists @aiyanakoka @GuessRita #WEIRDPeopleProblem onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Hello hello I now have funding for a grad student! Looking for someone interested in studying how people learn to parent in urban/suburban/rural populations that are post demographic transition.

Anyway! I am recruiting grad students to apply in 2019-2020. Interested in folks who want to do fieldwork either in Fiji or right here in Vancouver. I have seed funding to start that project in Fall 2019, and scrounging for more $$$ so that I can offer a fellowship. Stay tuned!

I'm surprised by how much this resonates. Lots of thoughtful comments. xitter.cf/rlmcelreath/status/111…
Thinking again this morning that so much scientific writing is bad because it is written for hostile reviewers rather than for interested readers. Not sure there is a way out of this trap.

Still preliminary version of the excel file & syllabus style list. Hoping to add more 'keywords' to make it more user friendly. And I have papers to add. Feel free to add these Black BioAnths to your syllabi & invite them to write a chap in your edited volume! #AAPA2019 1/2

The conference I’m going to this week is streaming presentations about the Denisovans this Thurs morning. If you’re interested in what scientists know about the mysterious hominins initially found through genetic analyses of finger bone found in a Siberian cave, check it out!
For the first time ever, the AAPA will be live streaming one of our symposia THIS THURSDAY, March 28 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT. The symposium will be streamed at the link below! facebook.com/PhysAnth/posts/…

As an NSF postdoctoral fellow, I have not been paid during the shutdown. We use my salary for childcare, and soon will have to decide whether or not I can afford to keep working without pay. As an academic, cutting my work hours will potentially hurt my income in the long run.

What happens to cognitive diversity when everyone is more WEIRD? "On all continents, indigenous people are swapping their distinctive ways of parsing the world for Western, globalised ones. As a result, human cognitive diversity is dwindling" aeon.co/ideas/what-happens-t…

I am a PhD student who is supported by a federal fellowship. I currently cannot access the money that pays my rent, food, etc. I also just finished my first manuscript to submit for review, but half of my coauthors are furloughed and cannot check their email to read my draft.
