September CPI report shows inflation rising, again. This hot CPI report is exhibit number 327 that the policies of trump and Republicans are wrecking our economy.
November is coming.
US September CPI: Inflation arrived hot in September on the back of rising energy prices, transportation costs and consumer electronics all combined to drive the CPI 0.6% higher on the month and 3.7% from one year ago. Core inflation advanced at a 0.3% m/m & 2.6% pace y/y.
Real average hourly earnings were down 0.1% and declined 0.7% from one year ago. Gasoline prices were up 9.1% and fuel oil 15.3% on the month. Service sector prices increased 0.4% and are up 3.1% from one year ago.
The topline inflation implies real wages declined for the sixth consecutive month which is intensifying the very real cost of living crisis that a majority of American households are experiencing.
The September CPI data provided little in the way of disinflation evidence. This points towards more than one additional rate hike from the Fed.
The problem is not an accelerated broadening out of inflation. The problem is stubborn and sticky inflation that is not going to decline below 3% in topline CPI, PCE or more importantly core PCE anytime soon which will demand a higher policy rate.
The data, which captures volatile energy, oil and distillate dynamics due to the war in Iran, is likely not sufficient to push the Fed to hike rates at its October meeting. That will wait until December where we see a 25-basis point hike to close out the year.

The Putin-Trump diesel deal is disastrous and illegal — but it is also a sign of the desperation of both men, one fearing to lose a war, the other to lose an election.

A decision has been made to kill more civilians in Ukraine
Ukrainian soldiers and people associated with the military are reporting restrictions on Starlink service. Likely on the direct orders of Elon Musk. Despite the fact that Ukraine pays him for these services.
How this will help Russia, which is currently losing occupied Ukrainian territories, is for the military to comment on. I will speak to the impact on the civilian population.
Starlink is also used by the interceptors that protect Ukrainian cities from Russian jet-powered Shaheds. Without that protection, Russian drones will strike residential buildings, hospitals, and schools like targets in a shooting gallery.
Let me be blunt: the blood of Ukrainian children will be on the hands of the owner and the entire team of this American company.

Smacks of desperation.
Mike Rogers’ wife is handing out $10 gas cards in Michigan while asking people to vote for her husband.
Republicans made gas unaffordable. Now they’re offering $10 to keep them in power.

This has several bad outcomes for Elon. He's not going to spend is way out of oversight.
Unconscionable if true. Need confirmation, as this would mean Musk essentially was directly responsible for deaths of Ukrainians. No laughing matter. Obviously a response from the company is required. Suspicions in Kyiv running high after US threats to withhold intel (which we apparently have not done, it is still flowing). This, though, is a twist. So an investigation is in order, need to get this right. Was starlink purposefully restricted? Was this at the request of the US side? Musk needs to respond to all of this. Congress and the media needs to demand answers. Gang of 8 should request a briefing from CIA and DoD asap.

Trump's theories of Putin's behavior are naive and therefore dangerous.
To think, if it were true, that Putin invaded Ukraine because Biden mocked Putin is just absurd. (Could someone at the CIA provide our president with a summary of Putin's speech days before invading? Mockery from Biden was not on his list of reasons to invade.)
And to remind, Biden met with Putin at a summit in Switzerland, where he treated him with respect. A few months later, Putin invaded Ukraine.

Here’s what’s amazing:
A tweet like this usually has a lot more replies from trolls.
The trolls have been silent, and we thank #ukraine for its service to the online community.
Bomb more data centers!

Apart from the immorality of importing Russian diesel fuel, it makes no sense. We already produce more diesel than we need, and export the rest. The amount we're importing is a drop in the bucket, in total less than ten days of consumption. It only makes sense if the American president wants to help Putin keep killing Ukrainians.
