Kids walking or bike riding to school are more awake, refreshed, focused and better ready to learn throughout the day. In other words, a student that walks or bikes to school is likely to be a better student. #saferoutestoschool #morekidsonbikes
According to the Safe Routes to School Organization, in 1969, 48% of children walked or bicycled to school, but by 2009 that number was down to only 13%. These statistics represent an incredible loss for society. 👇 ctmirror.org/2022/10/18/ct-c…
Let's see the data on whether the programs increase the future earnings of graduates more than the schooling costs them.
"Our public discourse has never been shallower than it is now," writes Wynn Gadkar-Wilcox, a professor of history at Western Connecticut State University. "We are failing to teach our students the basics when it comes to civics, history, and writing." ctmirror.org/2022/10/14/ct-c…
Such cognitive dissonance in Hartford. Pols are bellyaching about health insurance premiums rising while doing next to nothing to eliminate cost-drivers like Certificate of Need.
Though Connecticut's Office of Health Strategy approved a proton therapy center in Wallingford, it is opposed to one in Danbury. We need both, writes Drew Crandall, community engagement director for Danbury Proton. ctmirror.org/2022/08/23/prot…

Was very glad to see this @CTViewpoints op-ed: ctmirror.org/2022/04/28/curr… “what is missing from this mental health funding is support for the community-based nonprofits that deliver most of the state-sponsored social services.”
Apropos of nothing, how come reaction to kids’ boarding at the ER always seems to be “we need more beds” and not “we need to invest in our community-based system so we can intervene earlier & help these kids before things get so desperate that their parents bring them to the ER”?
