All smiles and ready to stand together! We're gearing up to head back to the bargaining table for a fair contract that ensures we can keep producing Pulitzer-winning journalism. Watch the web for updates 🗞️
Cutting that hurts Chicago. Our readers and these journalists deserve better. We call on the Tribune to finally explain these layoffs.
And we demand the newspaper show greater respect for Muslim journalists in the future. (5/5)
Nine of our Chicago Tribune Guild colleagues have left our newspaper since our owner, Alden Global Capital, initiated a series of layoffs, buyouts & reassignments two months ago.
Three of them were laid off. Each of our laid off colleagues is Muslim. (1/5)
The journalists in our union deserve respect. We will fight for it. And while we do that, we will keep working for Chicago. (4/4)
Alden needs to consider all options before cutting staff. And we encourage @chicagotribune editors to push back on the company. They know better than anyone that Chicago needs more reporting, not less. (3/ 4)
Cutting staff as a short-term profit boost is unsustainable. Our journalists photograph historic moments, break important news about government misconduct and keep you informed about the day to day. Buyouts will harm the newspaper's mission and hurt our company long-term. (2/4)
The @chicagotribune is offering buyouts to our journalists. This move by Alden Global Capital, our rapacious ownership group, shows a total lack of vision and respect for the newsroom and the city we serve. We will do whatever we can to support our members. (1/4)
We keep doing our jobs and we keep fighting together.
We are thrilled to have better pay and job security, but we know our fight to keep doing the work we love continues. We won't back down. (6/7)
