A Flood Watch has been issued for the State of Connecticut. The entire state is under this flood watch with many areas already experiencing some flooding. Here’s what to do: Ensure you have emergency alerts turned on your phone incase you area experiences flash flooding. Check your local weather channels for updates. Go to weather.gov to see the most accurate, up-to-date watches and warning issued for our area. Never drive or walk through flood waters. Flood waters are deceptive and can sweep you or your car away. Turn around, don’t drown!

We have seen a lot of snow so far today and there are still some heavy bands on the way through the evening before it slows later in the night. While the snow in most areas remain light and fluffy, the volume of the snow can make it a challenge to get walkways and driveways clear. As you clear your walkways and driveways, remember to take an easy, hydrate, and stop if you feel fatigued. The temperature will remain well below freezing in the coming days. Be sure to protect yourself by wearing face coverings, insulated gloves or mittens, waterproof and insulated shoes, and layers. Be safe and remember to call 911 in case of an emergency and reach out to your neighbors and offer help to those in need.

There have been numerous reports of accidents throughout Connecticut this morning since the start of the snowfall. We urge everyone to stay home and off the roads. At its peak, the snowfall is expected to be 2 inches per hour, this means there will be a significant buildup of snow on the road for a lot of the day. If you MUST drive (emergency, essential workers) remember: 🩺Keep a first aid kit in your vehicle 🚗Keep sand in your vehicle ❄️Keep a blanket and/or sleeping bags in your vehicle ⏲️Try and time your travel with light snowfall periods ❄️Do not pass snowplows ❄️Give snowplows ample room on the road. In the event of an emergency, call 911. Call 211 for other assistance. Be safe!
