💊 How does oral semaglutide affect cardiometabolic risk factors?
Niloofar Seighali and collaborators from @CTCPR_ have recently published a systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 RCTs including 26.284 participants.
They found that oral semaglutide was associated with lower body weight, BMI, waist circumference, HbA1c and blood pressure vs placebo.
GI adverse events were more common, while cardiovascular events were less frequent.

🫀How does inflammation during influenza affect cardiac function?
The FluHeart Study, led by @KristofferSkaar with colleagues from @CTCPR_ examined 241 patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza.
54% had LV dysfunction, while higher CRP levels were independently associated with elevated LV filling pressure, pulmonary hypertension and RV dysfunction.
The findings highlight a potential link between influenza-related inflammation and cardiac impairment.

❤️ Can age- and sex-specific reference ranges improve LV strain rate assessment?
A recent Copenhagen City Heart Study led by @JacobChrDK and colleagues from @CTCPR_ included 1.930 healthy participants to establish age- and sex-specific reference values for LV strain rates.
Low global late diastolic strain rate (GSRa) was independently associated with higher risk of cardiovascular death, HF or acute MI — highlighting its potential prognostic value.

🫁 Does chronic kidney disease affect RSV vaccine effectiveness?
A prespecified DAN-RSV analysis in European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, led by @LisaSteenDuus with @CTCPR_ colleagues, examined 131.276 adults ≥60 years, including 13.364 with CKD.
RSVpreF reduced RSV-related respiratory and cardiorespiratory hospitalizations, with no significant difference in vaccine effectiveness by CKD status

❤️ How does GLP-1 treatment affect cardiac physiology?
A Danish study in European Journal of Heart Failure, led by Frederik Fussing and colleagues from @CTCPR_, examined HeartLogic sensor data from 666 ICD/CRT patients, including 111 initiating GLP-1RA treatment.
GLP-1RA initiation was associated with higher heart rate and thoracic impedance, and lower S1 amplitude. Semaglutide was used in 95% of initiators.
The findings highlight the potential of implantable cardiac devices and remote monitoring to capture physiological changes following GLP-1RA treatment.

❤️How reliable are respiratory infection diagnoses in the Danish National Patient Registry?
A Danish study, published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, by Jacob Christensen and colleagues from @CTCPR_ examined 43 influenza/pneumonia hospitalizations among 12,477 participants in the DANFLU-1 trial.
The positive predictive value was 86–91% vs medical expert opinion, but 65–67% when requiring symptoms plus laboratory/radiological confirmation.
All 3 influenza diagnoses were confirmed, while uncertainty was mainly related to pneumonia.
The findings highlight the importance of validating registry-based outcomes when using nationwide health data for clinical research.

🫁 Does diabetes affect RSV vaccine effectiveness?
A prespecified DAN-RSV analysis led by @MananPareekMD with @CTCPR_ colleagues, published in Diabetes Care, examined 131,276 adults ≥60 years, including 14,439 with diabetes.
RSVpreF vaccine effectiveness was consistent in people with and without diabetes — despite higher event rates among those with diabetes.

New research from @AM_reimer and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in @CIDJournal, shows that electronic nudges can increase influenza vaccination uptake among immunosuppressed adults.
Vaccination increased by 4.1 percentage points among immunosuppressed participants—and by 13.3 percentage points among younger adults with chronic conditions and immunosuppression.
An important example of how simple, low-cost interventions can improve vaccination uptake in high-risk populations. 💉

Recent research from Kaveh Hosseini and colleagues from @CTCPR_ , published in @AmJCardio, shows that influenza vaccination may provide important cardiovascular protection in patients with ischemic heart disease or heart failure.
Vaccination was associated with 28% lower all-cause mortality, 23% lower cardiovascular mortality, and 19% lower risk of MI.
An important reminder of the potential role of influenza vaccination in cardiovascular prevention. 💉🫀

New research from Ramin Assempoor and colleagues from @CTCPR_ , published in Cardiovascular Diabetology, shows that higher C-reactive protein–triglyceride glucose index (CTI) is strongly associated with mortality among adults with MASLD.
Those in the highest CTI quartile had an 86% higher hazard of all-cause mortality and a 107% higher hazard of cardiovascular mortality.
An important step toward better risk stratification in MASLD—and further evidence of the link between inflammation, insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk. 🫀

New research from @matslassen and colleagues from @CTCPR_ , published in @CircAHA , shows that poor cardiovascular–kidney–metabolic (CKM) health is widespread in older adults and strongly linked to heart failure risk.
Higher CKM stage was associated with worse cardiac remodeling—and up to an 8.3-fold higher risk of incident HF.
An important step toward better risk stratification and prevention. 🫀

Electronic nudges alone may not be enough to improve guideline-directed therapy in CKD 📩
A new analysis by @KristofferSkaar and colleagues from @CTCPR_ , published in @JACCJournals, found that patient- and provider-directed nudges did not increase RASi or SGLT2i uptake after 12 months—despite modestly increasing GP engagement among patients receiving the patient-facing intervention.

Erectile dysfunction and heart health ❤️
A new study by Emil Durukan and colleagues from both @CTCPR_ and Afdeling for Urinvejssygdomme, published in the Journal Sexual Medicine, examined cardiac function in 398 men with erectile dysfunction.
Higher BMI, diastolic blood pressure and HbA1c were associated with LV systolic dysfunction, while BMI and dyslipidemia were associated with LV diastolic dysfunction.
The findings highlight the close link between sexual and cardiovascular health and the importance of cardiometabolic risk assessment in men with ED.
