The NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles almost killed Jalen Hurts for a Week 5 international showcase. The full details of what happened behind closed doors in London just surfaced, and the negligence is staggering. Before kickoff in London, Hurts was in a hospital bed until 4:00 AM undergoing emergency vascular testing. Medical staff instructed him not to sleep because sleep was considered an active health risk. Instead of shutting down their $255 million franchise quarterback, the team cleared him to play 60 minutes of brutal, high-impact collision football on zero sleep. Then, they loaded him onto a pressurized, 8-hour transatlantic flight back to Philadelphia. Every doctor on the planet knows that long-haul flights and cabin pressure are the exact triggers that cause lower-extremity blood clots to break free. The Eagles spent days assuring the public it was just a "minor, superficial calf clot". Now the truth comes out: the clot dislodged, shot through his bloodstream, and caused multiple pulmonary emboli in his lungs. Hurts is officially out for the season, placed on blood thinners where taking a single routine tackle could cause a fatal internal hemorrhage. He isn't just lucky to play football again, he is lucky to be alive. When the NFL preaches "player safety," remember this moment. They ran a human being into the ground for television ratings in the UK, almost lost him to a preventable medical catastrophe, and cratered their entire season in the process. Who inside that building signed off on letting him play and board that flight?

Yes, Jalen Hurts received COVID shots and yes, he now faces at least a year off due to blood clots. Both COVID and some COVID shots increase deadly clot risks. We don’t know if he had COVID but we know he had the shots. It’s entirely possible that he never plays again because of blood thinners. If so, this could get ugly. NFL put a lot of pressure on players to get the shots and I think the Eagles were totally negligent to let him play + travel overseas when they knew he had a clot. All the makings of a historic lawsuit if this ends his career and Jalen wants to go that route. We can’t conclusively say this was caused by the shots but we do know it’s very possible and it just reminds me how absurd and awful the entire COVID era was. And we’ll never know either because there’s no conclusive test to see if it played a role or not. But we’re talking about shots with very serious risks and every institution lied to make them sound like they had no risk at the time. There hasn’t been enough of a conversation around the risks people were forced to accept for their health by getting the COVID shots just to keep their jobs. It must never happen again. Praying that Jalen survives this and is able to lead a normal life again. Just all around awful.
#Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season after several blood clots were revealed in his lungs, has been undergoing tests for days. Before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep because sleep was a risk. He played without having slept.

Hot take that isn't even that hot. ⚾ Let 8-year-olds chase butterflies in the outfield, crush a snack-bar hot dog, and fall in love with the game first. The grind can wait. 🔥

Makes no sense that replay can’t overturn egregious calls like this. He was barely even touched and it cost the Rams the game.

“The problem isn't competitive balance. It never has been. The problem, from the owners' perspective, is figuring out how to separate winning from revenue.” Great Read.
A salary cap and floor will not fix baseball. In 2026, we should know by now that when uber-rich people want to cap their spending, it isn't because they care about "competitive balance." It's because they want to get richer. A salary floor won't change how Bob Nutting operates. Force him to spend more on players, and he'll cut spending elsewhere. These owners don't care about wins. They care about making more money every year so they can borrow against their increasingly valuable teams, dodge taxes, and cry poor because they're "in debt." What's stopping Nutting and other cheap owners from signing a few mediocre players to inflated one-year deals, hitting the floor, and rinsing and repeating every season? No cheap owner is suddenly going to commit to a long-term deal with a superstar because you made him spend a little more. The problem isn't competitive balance. It never has been. The problem, from the owners' perspective, is figuring out how to separate winning from revenue. Team valuations already increase year after year. Capping player salaries would only accelerate that trend. Owners can sell it as "competitive balance" because a cap creates more randomness, but randomness doesn't reward teams that invest in player development or spend aggressively to win. And that's assuming the cheaper owners don't just treat the floor as their new salary cap. What's stopping the six to eight teams already near the floor from deciding they only need to spend the minimum and cutting another $10-15 million? Given how the uber-rich operate in 2026, you really think at least a few wouldn't try? So what's the actual fix? Tie revenue sharing to winning. Teams with the highest three-year rolling winning percentages receive the most revenue-sharing money. Teams with the lowest receive less. Teams with an extraordinarily low winning percentage over five seasons get hit with a $50 million fine. You have to hit these guys where they actually care: their wallets. You can't rely on draft penalties or anything else that costs them picks or players. To an owner who doesn't care about winning, losing a draft picks can just mean less future superstars they have to pay in arbitration. Owners think in dollars. Fans and players think in wins. You have to tie the two together before even considering a salary cap or floor. Until then, you're wasting your time and making the richest people in the world even richer. Baseball shouldn't be a casino where teams occasionally hit the jackpot through random chance while the house always wins. Build a system that rewards organizations for actually trying to win, not one that makes winning optional while their franchise values keep climbing.

Brewers are playing Shohei Ohtani’s walk-up song, “Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé, in their winning clubhouse. They absolutely lost it and popped more bottles when the song started blasting.

"All we have to do is win today and force a tomorrow. That's our number 1 goal is not to think about the big picture of we need to win four in a row, it's we got to win today. If we win today, then we worry about tomorrow." Freddie Freeman talks with the media ahead of #NLCS Game 4 between the #Dodgers and the Brewers. #Postseason
