Nine researchers and artists Jose Cañada, Faidon Papadakis, @KViljami, Aga Pokrywka, Tiia Sudenkaarne, @VaittinenTiina, @RiinaHannula @SallaSariola and Oona Virtanen involved in the project presented their inspiring work and visions for the future of the social study of microbes.

CSSM PhD School 2024 kicks off with an introductory talk by @SallaSariola! We are thrilled to welcome 15 doctoral researchers in Helsinki and look forward to learning with and from the next generation of microbial scholars in the coming three days.

Oona combines video art, dance, performance, sound art, and the tradition of microscopy related to the observation of microbes. CSSM members already provided microbial samples e.g. from their bodies 💩 and from different environments -> to see our microbes dance very soon!

And finally experiencing the interactive installation “Sensing Holobiont - Flavourful Rituals for Metabolic Companions” by artist duo Baum & Leahy in collaboration with the network’s researchers was certainly a treat in many ways! /4
