Dear School Board,
I hope your week is off to a good start. I have had children in this district for 14 years now. My oldest of four children just graduated from Columbine with high honors. We believe in working hard academically and following through with our responsibilities. I appreciate your desire to help our district.
I carefully read the latest email updating the district's federal Title IX violations here in Jeffco. I wanted to share with you my serious concerns regarding Jeffco's latest lawsuit with the Federal Government. First, that is a very expensive decision for a district in a financial deficit. I see absolutely no need for this expenditure. Second, why does the Jeffco administration feel like they are the first district in Colorado to achieve both state and federal compliance on this issue? Many neighboring districts have plans in place that support all students and meet both state and federal law.
Despite claiming to champion “equal opportunity,” Jeffco’s legal team has consistently rejected reasonable, balanced overnight solutions that would open doors for all students while harming none. Why is Jeffco the only district that can't come up with a reasonable solution. Many solutions have been presented here by Jeffco Kids First Organization.
In my neighborhood, not a single person I have talked to favors raising taxes or giving the district more funding to spend on lawsuits and other top-heavy expenditures. We all know that school enrollment is down and will keep dropping. Jeffco does not have a strong reputation in the news right now. Before we ask taxpayers on fixed incomes for more money, we may want to stop being in the news headlines for more cases of teachers’ sexual abuse, misconduct, lack of decorum and professionalism among school board members, and most importantly, avoid federal litigation.
I highly recommend hiring a new chief legal counsel who can work more effectively with all parties.

Todd: Hello… Operator… listen to me. I can’t speak very loud. This is an emergency. I’m a passenger on a United flight to San Francisco. Our plane has been hijacked.
Lisa: I understand. Can they see you?
Todd: No. There are three that we know of. They have knives — razor knives, like box cutters. Someone announced from the cockpit there was a bomb. It sounded fake.
Lisa: Your name?
Todd: Todd Beamer. United Flight 93.
Todd: They killed one passenger in first class. They forced most of us back. Fourteen of us here. Five flight attendants. The guy with the bomb ordered us to sit on the floor.

Todd: Four of us are going to rush the one with the bomb. Then the cockpit. A stewardess is getting boiling water. We’ll take them out.
