Our CEO @sanambna (@KingsCollegeLon @CSDConference Keynote) shares how ICAN adapted to supporting #WASL during #COVID19: "It’s really important to strengthen #local #activism and #community organizations — you need the local-rootedness but you also need global-connectedness.”

To understand capitalism nowadays requires understanding the end of neoliberalism in the kate 1990s and the rise of a global rentier capitalism, in which a few people profit from rents from stocks, assets and land ownershipy Thanks to Guy Standing for explaining this! #csdc2021

QUESTION:
Is there any society that you think has become MORE patriarchal over the past 50 years?
e.g. women have less economic or physical autonomy, less mobility, fewer positions of seniority & leadership, more controlled by male guardians, & increasingly seen as inferior?

This is the lowest number of daily Covid-19 vaccination Zimbabwe has witnessed in weeks. The low number in the daily vaccination could be an indication that Zimbabwe is now facing Covid-19 vaccine shortages.

Summing up @HAldersonICRC says neutrality isn't about being silent, it’s not doing nothing: it’s staying out to stay in. Neutrality is part of a package of humanitarian principles.
It's a means to an end as opposed to a system of values that we abide to blindly #CSDConference

What is humanitarian action? Delivering food, medical care... but it's also about speaking to people who may be on terrorist lists. If we don't, then we can't work in places where we need to. But in the mind of politicians this isn't humanitarian action. @HAldersonICRC

Next question focuses on the criminalisation of aid.
@HAldersonICRC says counter terrorism policies may be legitimate, but @ICRC concern is the impact on populations who may not be able to access services, and humanitarians, who may be barred from speaking to certain groups.

Discussion kicks off with question as to whether humanitarians can remain neutral in the face of attacks?
@HAldersonICRC says yes, but neutrality is one of several principles that form @ICRC modus operandi - humanity, impartiality and independence being the others.
