The media is finally starting to fucking get it. The noise is finally starting to get louder and louder about what needs to happen. The fire is getting hot.

The 2 best teams in the @MLB are going to the World Series. The two teams with the highest batting averages no less. Maybe pulling the ball in the air to the pull side isn’t the recipe for success. Two teams that play baseball the way it’s supposed to be played. This has nothing to do with ANALytics and I freaking love it! The first Boone Bracket™ is complete, and here's who the eventual champion (summoning Nestor Cortes over Tim Hill) toppled along the way (with the winning percentage in parentheses): • Round of 32: Ejected for fan yelling (90%) • Round of 16: The June Swoon (85.9%) • Elite Eight: Rizzo playing concussed (87.3%) • Final Four: Cole not covering 1st (74.8%) • Championship: Boone's invincibility (64.6%) Shoutout to Aaron Hicks standing around in the LF corner for making a real Cinderella run, winning three rounds as an 8 seed THANK YOU to everyone who participated and followed along all week; whether you voted in one round or all of them, whether you talked about the Boone Bracket™ on the radio or simply printed one out and cruelly left it on your Yankee fan coworker's desk, I appreciate you playing a role in this pinstriped catharsis. Also, I heard You People™ LOUD AND CLEAR; there were a lot of things missing from the bracket. Between my own tough cuts and things I just plain forgot about (or scrubbed from my memory banks), you'll be pleased (or super disappointed) to learn that Boone Bracket™ #2 drops this Chaos Tuesday™, featuring 32 more Boone-era embarrassments. After we run this exercise back next week, the winner of bracket #2 will face off with Nestor over Tim Hill in the Boone Bracket™ World Series. Thanks again and LFG ❤️ ⚾️
Well, folks — You People have spoken! Many votes were cast during the last week and the Boone Bracket even got airtime on @WFAN660, and we determined that THE most embarrassing of the 32 featured lowlights was this, because he “just liked the matchup”:

The loudest group of people who love Brian Cashman are Mets fans. Because all they want is relevancy. They don't care about winning a championship. (Most) Yankee fans, however, do care about winning championships. Brian Cashman has won 1 championship in 27 years.
Boomer and Gio use the Mets as a cautionary tale for Yankee fans wanting Brian Cashman fired:

Having black holes at 3B/2B/C for most of the year, pulled pork hamstrings Grisham, failed platoon guys like Rosario, 2 rookies starting every day while learning on the fly, all while allowing a soft coddle culture with an unserious manager is not even close to being “all-in”

Barely a week and Kay is back shilling like a good company boy Judge wants the Yankees to be "All in" means he doesn't want to compete for a ring with rookies batting 4/5... probably just wants the Yankees to stop punting positions... nothing to do with payroll

Jeter had won 4 rings in 5 years as the starting shortstop and had the right to play wherever he wants. How much better than that could you possibly do? Homegrown talent, leader, winner, team captain — he had the track record to stick at shortstop after what he’d accomplished before A-Rod even showed up.
Replying to @notgaetti
he’s literally the worst defensive shortstop of all time and he was a selfish player because any other player when A-rod joins the team as an elite shortstop you would switch positions and not make him do it

At some point, baseball has to get back to valuing ballplayers and not just numbers on a screen. Give me the Freddie Freemans, the Buster Poseys, Hunter Pences, Pablo Sandovals, Michael Youngs, Ian Kinslers of the world. Guys who just flat out know how to play the game. Everyone wants to talk launch angle and exit velo, but what happened to valuing a quality at bat?” The 9-pitch battle that might end in an out, but forces a pitcher to show everything he’s got. The guy who hits behind the runner, takes what’s given, or just refuses to give a pitcher an easy inning. Those at-bats might not look sexy in the box score, but they show up in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Some of these dudes could absolutely leave the yard too. That’s the point. They weren’t one-dimensional. Somewhere along the way, we confused measurable tools with knowing how to win baseball games. I’m not against analytics or hitting the ball hard, but there is an art to winning that you can’t fully measure. We need more guys who know how to play baseball, not just hitters, not just athletes, ballplayers. And I promise you, those dudes never go out of style

The Boone-Era in a nutshell
This clip from the old Michael Kay show popped up on my Facebook memories. Listen to what Kay and LaGreca talked about to how the 2018 season ended in the ALDS. Eerily similar to how the 2026 season just ended against the Rays. Lack of Urgency. Lack of Runs. To heavily reliant on a scripted outcome that the nerds and a computer spit out. It’s crazy how 8 years later we continue to have similar conversations on what went wrong with the Yankees and what needs to be changed. Michael Kay and Don La Greca were so right with the break downs here. Worth a listen !

Everyone from Randy down gotta go.. its a congress swamp with the yanks rn. They need new life at every step in the org. The Steinbrenner family is extremely loyal and thats commendable. George rewarded loyalty. But its time for a change while also giving these people respect.
People blame Cashman, Hal and Aaron Boone for the Yankees inabilities to win a WS championship, but Randy Levine has done for the franchise close to nothing since becoming President in 2000 It’s time for him to pack it up as well.

Sherman could not say it any better IMO This sums up the Yankees to a tee "I think this explains the June swoon/July malaise that infect Boone’s teams annually. And there is no internal institution — Betts and Freeman out on the field — to relentlessly push the culture. The switch goes off, and that is a hard one to turn fully back on. You either are valuing this or not — there is no halfway in baseball at this level. The blame is to Brian Cashman and his group for acquiring and sticking with some players who just cannot play hard and smart daily, and emphasize the scoreboard over all else. It is on Aaron Judge and clubhouse leadership for not enforcing this at a higher level. And it is on Boone for not being able to motivate better."

It seems today in this country we take what is a game that is American as apple pie, steeped in tradition and bastardize it to the point of making it unrecognizable. Moneyball, a simple phrase for finding the best players at a fair price to make your team a contender, has morphed into this analytical bullshit that wrecks the game. Catchers don’t crouch anymore. We bring pictures in who are outfielders when the game is out of line. We even have people out there that suggest we give up a game to save your pitching staff. We survived the shift, now they want outfielders to play their position so that hitters can hit more gap balls. leave our game alone. All these rules don’t make the game better. I don’t have a problem with making the game a little quicker, but sitting watching a game, having some popcorn, a hotdog, peanuts or cold beer with your buds, conversation during the lulls of the game, it’s just a great way to spend a day with your son, with your dad with your best buds. This is a beautiful game. I regret every day that I couldn’t play more of it, but I never regret the work and the journey it took to get me to that level. I envy people that got to that level and stayed at it for however many years they did. stop changing our game. leave it alone, have a beer have some popcorn and watch the most beautiful game that was ever designed .oh and one more thing ,stop going to these idiot hitting coaches, they know absolutely nothing 🤣read the art of hitting 300 by Charlie Lau. It will save you money and open your eyes.

Radar guns and analytics can measure almost everything in this game. None of them can measure guts and nuts.
