Two years ago today we started bargaining for our first contract.
In the time since, management has made a series of choices underscoring why it’s past time for a fair contract (thread🧵1/6:)
Today’s the day!! After months of hard work, we head to the bargaining table to start negotiating our first contract. We’re fired up and stand together as one. @WBNG32035 @newsguild
(5/6): At the bargaining table, management has refused to commit to defending us if we face legal threats in the course of doing our jobs.
They want to pick and choose when it works for them and their interests.
(6/6): We could spend all day listing the ways that @FiscalNote’s choices have hurt the newsroom. We know them because we’ve spent years living the consequences of them every day.
It’s time for a fair contract.

NEW — Four years after House offices first voted to unionize, Rep. Ro Khanna’s office won Capitol Hill’s first comprehensive, multi-year contract.
The agreement is a major breakthrough for a labor movement that has sputtered post-Biden.

After bargaining just once a month for the last two years, management has agreed to meet with us more often.
We’re excited about this positive step forward as we continue to fight for a fair contract!✊
Spotted in the newsroom this week: @sagaftra President @SeanAstin👀
Like us, Sean knows the importance of a union. Maybe @FiscalNote should support its own unionized employees, too.

Our photographers are the best in the business, capturing the biggest moments of the day. Other outlets agree and regularly pay good money to use their photos.
@FiscalNote thinks they shouldn’t get a cent of the money they make the company every year.
Management has argued that giving CQRC photographers a small cut of their photo sales would make them driven by profit, rather than getting the best photos.
That argument isn’t just wrong, it’s also insulting to our photographers who go above and beyond every single day.
FiscalNote will lay off our coworkers and drag out negotiations for almost two years, but even they recognize the quality work produced by CQ Roll Call’s journalists when they want to get subscribers. instagram.com/p/DaLFeD2lp1a/
When @FiscalNote illegally laid off four of our members this year, management gave them paltry severance and no health care past the end of the month.
But when management leaves, there’s money for two years of severance pay and 18 months of COBRA🤔

Our members make a fraction of the six figure salaries that @FiscalNote executives make. The company has cried poor at every turn of negotiations, from overtime to increasing paid parental leave. Looks like they do have the money after all!
We’re headed back to the bargaining table this afternoon!
Our newsroom that once numbered 300 now has fewer than 70 people. It’s past time for @FiscalNote to agree to a fair contract and stop gutting the newsroom.
Every newsroom covering the Hill is full of CQRC alums and we’re proud to have given so many talented reporters a start to their careers.
But now, retaining top talent is growing more and more difficult as management chooses not to invest in the newsroom.
