🚨🗣️New: Breel Embolo on his controversial red card during the Argentina and Switzerland game; “I’ve watched the incident back, and I still can’t make sense of it. They say I simulated and deserved a second yellow, but the whole sequence only exists because the referee made the wrong decision in the first place by booking Leandro Paredes. If the referee had simply given a foul without a yellow card, VAR doesn’t even get involved because it’s not a reviewable situation.” “That’s what frustrates me the most. I’m sent off because of a chain of decisions that should never have happened. Instead of correcting a mistake, the system creates another one, and suddenly my World Cup is over. How is that fair?” “I’ve played this game long enough to accept when I make mistakes, but I also expect the officials to be held to the same standard. In a World Cup quarter-final, one decision changes everything. My teammates had to finish the match with ten men, our game plan was destroyed, and all anyone is talking about is the referee instead of the football.” “I’ve always supported technology when it’s used to eliminate clear and obvious errors, but today it felt like the rules were working against the spirit of the game. Fans don’t want matches decided by technical loopholes or inconsistent interpretations. They want the best team to win on the pitch. Today, I don’t feel that’s what happened.”
