Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary on EU:
We have a scandal in Europe. We apply environmental taxes only to intra-EU flights.
We don’t tax the Americans, the Asians or the Chinese, despite the fact that their flights account for more than 53% of Europe’s CO2 emissions.
Nobody would design a stupid system like this other than the European Parliament and Ursula von der Leyen.
If you’re serious about competitiveness, tax the Americans when they land here in Europe.
We only tax the poor, dumb European citizens traveling around visiting friends and family.

703 days ago Kenya police abducted Uganda’s opposition leader, Dr. @kizzabesigye1, and handed him over to his torturers.
The blame and shame for his current condition rest solely on Mr. Ruto and those who support his lawbreaking regime.
Ruto’s regime must demand the unconditional release of Dr. Besigye and his aide, Hajj Obeid Litale. #freekizzabesigye
Three months since he collapsed, I finally had the opportunity to see and meet my leader, @kizzabesigye1! Before meeting him, I had imagined so many things about his appearance and current condition. It broke my heart to see that he is now being taught how to walk and talk again. A speech therapist was using a word chart with simple words like "dog" and "boy," which KB is supposed to try his hardest to pronounce, though he hasn’t succeeded yet.
KB uses an alphabetical letter chart where he taps out letters for you to write down and piece together what he is saying. Sensing that I was shocked about his current state, he pointed that “it could have been worse.”
We both would laugh when he would check my notes and realize I had written something completely different from what he was spelling out! 🙈🙈 I tried to defend myself by saying that’s what he had tapped, and we would laugh again. When I ran out of excuses for my mistakes, I reminded him that my eyes aren't fully functional, which is why I wear glasses. 🙈
KB is now also an expert of sign language, when he gets tired of using the chat, he uses signs 😳
He hears very well, but he not able to talk yet. I commended his sharp brain of being able to communicate by tapping letters of alphabet.
He doesn’t remember exactly what happened at court, he remembers waking up days later while in the ICU at Mulago.
As we conversed, I was drinking water, When I offered him a bottle as well, I was reminded that he cannot hold a bottle of water on his own. His hands aren’t firm, they are shaky and lack strength.
He stated that we are back in the 1890s but encouraged us to hang in there. He said that under the current regime, just staying alive is an achievement.
Salongo @EriasLukwago is his neighbor in the same facility, but they have never met. I informed him how Lukwago was taken to Mulago.
Seeing KB in state he is was incredibly painful, but his enduring spirit and sharp mind remind me why he is the leader he is. Please keep KB in your thoughts and prayers as he walks this long, difficult road to recovery. His resilience gives me hope that we will get through this dark chapter. Long live KB🙏🏻

The biggest, and stupidest, myth in European politics, particularly popular in France, is that Europe suffers the consequences of "austerity" and "neoliberalism". In the biggest 5 countries in Europe, more than half of the population makes its income from the state, less than half from the private sector. This is what makes the problem of reducing the welfare state so impossible: more than half of the voters are net recipients. No surprise that Italy's budget has not been balanced in 100 years, France's in 50 years (ooh la la, l'austérité!!):
-France: 30 million from the state versus 21m private sector workers. State spending is 57% of GDP, taxes more than half the economy. The budget hasn't been balanced in the lifetime of most French (since 1974).
- Germany: 35 million adults from the state, versus 34 million from the private sector. 10% of the population is registered as severely disabled. Public spending is over half of GDP. Germany has had a continuous budget deficit since 2019.
-Italy: 23 million from the state, versus 20.5 million private-sector workers. Public spending is 51% of GDP. Italy has had a budget deficit every year since 1925, for 100 years.
- Spain more people get their income from the state since 2024: 18.21 million from the public sector versus 17.9 million people working in the private sector. Since 2025, Spain also had more government employees than self-employed workers (autónomos) for the first time in history. State spending is at 45%, budget has not been balanced since 2007.
- UK: 54% of households now receive more in state benefits than they pay in taxes. State spending is 44.5% of GDP, taxes (40%) are at their highest since 1950, the budget hasn't been balanced since 2001, and 1 in 5 new cars is paid by the government through a bizarre state disability scheme (Motability).

🇪🇺🇫🇷 Europe's riots are just the beginning. The real economic shock hasn't even arrived yet.
I spoke with economist Philip Pilkington about the unrest spreading across France, Italy and Albania.
He thinks we're watching the early stages of something much bigger.
One statistic really caught my attention.
According to Pilkington, France's inflation-adjusted household food consumption has fallen roughly 6.4% since 2022. He suspects the poorest households have suffered far steeper cuts.
Now add another surge in energy prices.
Pilkington pointed to rice futures rising 70% this year, wheat and sugar climbing 40%, and fertilizer shortages threatening next year's harvest.
His prediction is that the worst food inflation could arrive this winter or next spring.
And there's a political problem sitting right on top of it.
Governments across Europe are already deeply unpopular. People are struggling to afford basic necessities, and another prolonged energy shock could push that frustration much further.
What worries me is that we're already seeing streets erupt before the full economic consequences of the Iran war have reached ordinary households.
Pilkington believes Europe is entering a period of serious instability. After hearing his numbers, I can understand why.

First, they demanded massive government spending: printing.
Then, they demanded unsustainable pensions: printing.
Then, they demanded massive interventionist regulation in energy, industry, and housing.
Then, they demanded more central bank printing.
Inflation soared.
Now they riot, burn, and loot... demanding more printing and more interventionism.
Socialism. Repeat.

This weekend in Paris, we saw some real chaotic protests. There were ZERO deaths but many arrests.
Kenya experienced similar scenes, yet the result was over 60 protesters shot dead by police, some on live television, alongside people being abducted, tortured and, in some cases, later found dead in rivers and dams. Others were released, sometimes after intense public pressure. At one point, even the Attorney General’s son was abducted(yikes!).
In Paris, I watched groups of young, hooded men breaking into shops. Yet I haven’t heard of an abduction squad systematically snatching them from their homes at night, only for some to later turn up in a mortuary.
Hope this helps.
