Do rich and poor people remain that way throughout their lives? Do people experience reversals of fortune? When?

In concentrated local labour markets, minimum wage hikes increase hours for minimum wage workers, with no effect on job loss. Hours gains *reverse* with repeated hikes.
In low-concentration markets, hikes increase job loss with no effect on hours.
*NEW* Minimum wages don't impact all labour markets in the same way. Using Irish data, @kevin_devereux and @Zstudn find positive effects on work hours local labour markets that are less competitive and job losses in more competitive labour markets.

I'm very excited about this presentation. I'm going to talk about a rare case of reduced educational opportunities for women, and its effect on labour market outcomes of those who prevented from going to college and those who went to college despite these barriers.

New longitudinal study follows British Columbia school children from 8 to 12 years in age: much variation by race in the relationship btw parental income & child achievement. Race-based income-achievement gaps reflect sorting by income into schools & health/housing inequality.
*NEW* Using data from BC Minister of Education linked to parents' income tax records, new CLEF research finds that economic disparities for Indigenous children appear at an early age and appear rooted in inequality in health outcomes and poor housing.

What about Canadians age 65 and above? Again, I'm not seeing it. Yes, numbers have slipped slightly in the past 2 months, but let's remember the margin of error on these month-to-month changes are not trivial (95% CI on each point estimate here is about +- 0.8 ppts).
Canadian Labour Economics Forum retweeted
I'm not seeing an exodus. Not even close. 62.8% of Canadians age 55-64 were employed in July 2022 compared 62.6% in February 2020. And we'd expect that number to be trending down since the average age within this group has been increasing (more of them are close to age 65).

100% political spin. Policy objective here is to ease immigration transition for temporary residents with insufficient human capital to clear Express Entry hurdle. Part and parcel of this government’s shift away from prioritizing skilled immigrants.
