Speak to any immigrant student about their family’s experiences with an oppressive regime and it becomes very clear that Independence & Freedom need to be protected. Let’s not forget a very important lesson: we are, “one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

If teachers/admin start each day by engaging students in meaningful conversation, “the rules” (me vs you) become obsolete. Build relationships, model expectations & behavior issues will significantly decrease. THAT is the secret to establishing collaboration & productivity.

Meeting students where they are and growing them toward grade-level mastery [or beyond] has to be our #1 priority.

#COVID19 is prompting us to take stock of HOW we’ll congregate but there’s little talk about WHAT students will be learning. With many states canceling end-of-year tests, let’s make closing the achievement gap the focus of instruction. Grade level mastery -> exceed expectations.
