Fear of being blamed is the biggest reason why children don’t report abuse. As professionals we must create safe spaces for them to feel comfortable to talk, and never blame them for what has happened to them #CAPM23
Q6. What holds children/teens back from reporting exploitation and how can we as professionals help them feel more comfortable? #CAPM23

A8 The AHLA Foundation makes sure to use examples of #humantrafficking that people may not expect – like familial trafficking, trafficking of men and boys, etc. in our #NoRoomForTrafficking materials and resources. #HTAD2023
Q8 We’ve all encountered a great deal of misinformation about human trafficking and how it happens, particularly on social media, over the last few years. What are some of the misconceptions you have been faced with and what has your response been? #HTAD2023

Traffickers recognize that creating relationships, community, and providing resources are easy ways to recruit, groom, and establish dependence. Once those tactics have been employed, it is much more difficult for those exploited to leave their situation. #HTAD2023
Q3 Human trafficking is a crime that impacts vulnerable people/communities at a higher rate. How do traffickers take advantage of these vulnerabilities? #HTAD2023

THIS. Can’t say it enough - if we want to prevent trafficking, we have to make sure young people’s most basic needs, like safe and stable housing are met.
Traffickers target unhoused youth.
Our research shows that 68% of youth who had either been trafficked or engaged in survival sex had done so while homeless.

Children and youth experiencing homelessness are especially vulnerable to trafficking.

Replying to @NCMEC
A misconception is that only women get trafficked. This keeps people from reporting and identifying others who are being victimized. anyone can be exploited, and both men & LGBTAI+ survivors deserve the same respect and support as anyone else who has been trafficked. #HTAD2023
