Why can leukaemia cause bone pain in children? Leukaemia starts in the bone marrow, where blood cells are made. As abnormal cells build up, they can crowd out healthy cells and increase pressure on the bones, causing bone or joint pain.

Although bone pain can have many causes, persistent or unexplained or worsening pain should never be ignored. If you’re concerned about your child’s symptoms, seek medical advice. Learn the SILUAN Early Warning Signs of Childhood Cancer at choc.org.za.

#NationalNutritionWeek For families staying at a CHOC House, a meal can provide comfort, connection, and a sense of normality during a difficult time. Nutrition support also helps families who may be facing financial pressure while caring for a child undergoing treatment.

At CHOC, we understand that cancer is not only a medical journey, it is an emotional one too. Behind every drip, diagnosis, and hospital bed is a child or teenager facing fear, a parent navigating uncertainty, and a family learning to hold on to hope.

CHOC social workers provide safe spaces where children, teenagers, and their families can express their feelings, learn healthy coping strategies, and access the emotional support they need throughout their cancer journey.
