Remembering James Baldwin on his birthday. One of my favourite quotes āThe children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of moralityā

We appreciate efforts by #CT legislators to enact State funding for the #CASA movement here & continue to work with them toward this goal.
Thanks @CTMirror for covering how #VOCA funds are key but insufficient.

The Audacity to Believe - Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech: āI have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits. I believe that what self-centered men have torn down men other-centered can build up.ā
Letās have the AUDACITY to share this belief and to commit to making this belief a reality.

āI tell my students, āWhen you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody elseā. - Toni Morrison born Feb 18.

Congratulations to @SCSU on achieving this prestigious designation. The stronger our universities get, the stronger our state gets. š
Weāre thrilled to announce Southern Connecticut State University is now recognized as Connecticutās first and only Research 2 (R2) University, joining an elite group of nationally recognized institutions.
This milestone underscores our dedication to academic excellence and innovation. It means more hands-on research opportunities, career-ready graduates, and a greater impact on our community and beyond. #LeadingTheWay

If our politics as Christians cause us to be more suspicious about how a poor single parent spends their welfare check than we are about how billionaires use their wealth to gain unprecedented access to our nationās halls of power, we need a grand reversal.

āGod used immoral leaders throughout Scripture, so why canāt God use Trump too?ā
I absolutely believe God is using Donald TrumpāGod is using him to expose how so much of white evangelicalism has completely abandoned the way of Jesus.

My viewpoint from the field of pediatrics in the wake of the election results. As pediatricians, politics & policy touch everything we do. I see the impact firsthand every day:
- The teen with immunodeficiency who listens to politicians demonize vaccinesāeven though these protections could mean everything to his health and safety
- The young adult who has been raped and needs access to *the full range* of reproductive services
- The teenager battling depression and thoughts of suicide, but whoās on Medicaidāinsurance that many private doctors canāt afford to accept because of inadequate reimbursements
- The young person struggling with their gender identity, while lawmakers publicly vilify them, threatening their safety and well-being
These are real people, and theyāre the faces behind every choice our politicians make.
So, what do we do when politicians make our worker harder?
**We work together. We do important, hard work in our daily lives.**
For me, this means caring for each patient and family in front of me, putting one foot in front of the other, and fighting for science, evidence, and whatās good and right in this world.

This is perhaps the hardest part about today: realizing that our fellow Americans saw all of that; watched all of that; listened to all of that, and still said, āYes, thatās what we want.ā Thatās who we are. msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinā¦

Our nationās democratic system functioned last night and we have a new President-elect.Ā Ā All Americans are bound, whether we like the outcome or not, to accept the results of our elections. We now have a special responsibility, as citizens of the greatest nation on earth, to do everything we can to support and defend our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that our institutions hold over these coming four years.Ā Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press and those serving in our federal, state and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.

My politics are really simple. I just want everyone to have what they need and be free to live according to their own values.
I donāt want my religion dictating your lives. I want my religion to teach me how to love you better.
Letās commit to each other and to love.

Conservatives want the property values and home equity that come from living in communities with strong public schools.
They just donāt want to pay for it.

I miss the Grand Old Party (GOP) and long for the day when we can return to healthy and principled partisan debates. (We idealistic hippies sometimes need to be reined in by practical conservatism.) But this election is different⦠and much deeper than D versus R and left versus right. Itās a clear choice, and the survival of our democracy is on the line.
The world needs not the chaos of Trump but the stability of Kamala Harris. The world needs America.
