The thing to do is the thing that scales, we're told.
A barber must be present for every haircut; otherwise, they won't make money. Lame.
Alternatively, an entrepreneur can build a software company that makes money while they sleep. The unit economics of SaaS, consumer marketplaces, and the wonders of AI are where you'll find gold.
The barber gets home for dinner every night and doesn't miss a family event. However, they don't own a yacht or a second home in Aspen.
The entrepreneur works around the clock, fueled by Adderall and nicotine. Just one more feature, one more deal. One more LinkedIn post to let people know they're still grinding at the office at 10:30 pm.
One more missed kid's soccer game, another missed dance recital. It's worth it.
Jobs, Musk, Bezos... they're the North Star. It's not like there's any other man who has walked the earth that might be more worthy of emulation.

I've been having a lot of conversations about "community" lately. But what is community?

I interviewed Zuck in January 2020. In the following months, the FBI would call him and ask him to take down content they claimed was "Russian disinformation." It wasn't.
The decision to suppress this content may have swung a presidential election. Of course, we now know that truthful Covid-19 content was also censored.
I understand the (deserved) anger at Zuck for his role in this, but at least he's accepted he made a mistake and vowed never to do it again.
What about the 51 intelligence officials who knew it wasn't Russian disinformation and still said it was to protect a presidential candidate?
What about the overwhelming number of media organizations who went along with that narrative?
Most importantly, what about the people who coordinated all of this who are still holding positions at the highest levels of government?
No accountability. No apologies. No promise not to do it again.
Free speech can't rest on the shoulders of tech entrepreneurs.
How many tech CEOs would be willing to give the middle finger to the FBI? That list has one name: Elon.
In the video below, I believe Zuck was sincere in his commitment to free speech and expression.
It's good to have the authentic Zuck back, and it's good to have another name on that list.
Mark Zuckerberg owes a lot of people a lot of money in damages. Lost lives. Lost elections. Losses in reputation.
I’m delighted that he is turning around.
But those he hurt deserve deep financial compensation/exoneration.
We should not be having to say this on our own behalf.
This was Mark Zuckerberg hydrofoiling while he was participating in the censorship of his fellow Americans and the destruction of our abilities to conduct free and fair elections and inquiries into our own family health.
This is July 4, 2021.
I think that much of that fortune needs to be distributed to those he targeted and wronged.
One man’s opinion.
