Bottom Ten P5 schools:
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Utah
Texas Tech
Boston College
Georgia Tech
Wake Forest
Oregon State
Iowa State
Washington State
Top Twelve non-P5 schools:
BYU
UConn
SMU
Houston
UCF
Temple
South Florida
SDSU
Colorado State
Memphis
Cincinnati
Liberty
Observations/Disclaimers:
-Stanford at 15th and #1 in the Pac-12 stands out. Have to think this is largely based on wealthy donors & interest accrued from their rumored $1 Billion athletic endowment
-P5 money advantage is massive; barely any cross-over between those in the P5 conferences and all those that aren't/weren't
-SEC will have 10 of the top 14 revenue schools starting in 2024 (and 12 of the top 19)
-Many athletic depts (especially lower tier P5 and all G5s) are heavily subsidized by direct institutional support and/or student fees. While EADA filings do not detail this figure, the info is available for all public universities via USAToday, KnightCommission, or Sportico
-Not all schools report revenues from the same sources and so there are some inherent outliers
-Total revenue figures are not necessarily a direct surrogate for "brand strength" due to many of the reasons above

Unless you're knee deep in state-by-state NIL laws, you likely missed that Missouri now allows high-school seniors to make money ... IF they pick an-in state school.
Lo and behold, Mizzou landed a 5-star this week.
That and more in this week's Mailbag.

PAC-4 + EXPANSION CANDIDATES
A few more charts comparing #Pac12 expansion candidates, should they choose to rebuild rather than move on:
Note that there are a LOT of great schools who would be wonderful, but also note how different it will be from the old @pac12 that fans have grown used to
Data notes for those who like to be ornery:
(Most can ignore) 😜
— Includes all MWC, AAC, G-5 flagships + AAUs, DoD SAs, + UCD
— TV viewership is only for games on ESPN or cable channels. OTA channel games are excluded, as in this pool they are uncommon, not representative, and distort averages. Limited to Nielsen-rated games only
— Academic rank is a 3-way average of the most respected ranks, force ranked among limited pool of FBS+AAU schools for consistency
— UCD is FCS, and not in FBS data, or on rated TV
— DoD SAs do not report financial data under EADA
— Wichita State does not play football, thus the zeroes, but is included as an AAC member
— Axis cuts are clearly noted when necessary for other clusters to be more easily readable on the chart
— Note this is 2022 football attendance avg. because so many folks didn't like the 2022 5-yr avg. on the chart the other day and whined about it. 😘
Spoke with a #SMU booster today who tells me there is a group of donors willing to give SMU $200 Million over the next five seasons to compensate for the lack of distribution in the ACC. The donors believe SMU is in a now or never situation for entry in to a P5 conference.

Makes too much sense.

SEC has told ESPN they would go to a 9 game conference schedule if they can get 2 more schools added at a full share. This would add a TON of SEC inventory.

I’ve said, “what happens when the next iteration of this is ‘why are we sharing money with programs that don’t contribute as much and aren’t as attractive’”. The golden ticket a few hold now might disappear.
I wrote this 4 years ago, before all the recent major moves. All roads are clearly headed this way, it's just a matter of when/how many will be included.
Also: I could see it being more AFC/NFC with ESPN and Fox.
