I've just written about my very intense relationship with my father and how running helped me both connect with him and avoid becoming him. It's also my first article ever for @TheAtlantic . My dad wrote for the magazine in 1967, and i t seems fitting that the first piece published here from my family in 58 years is about him. theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…

It's been a LONG 5 years since @emily_infeld last ran at Worlds, but after navigating a series of injuries, overcoming serious personal challenges, and changing coaches only to come up 1/10th of a second short in the 10,000m... ...Emily makes the team. 📸: Johnny Zhang

FISHER GETS HIS FIRST TILE AND KINCAID COMES BACK FROM THE DEAD! The @BowermanTC duo finishes 1-2 with two very different races, as @Phresh_Fish decimates the field with a 4:04 final 1600m and @KincaidWoody eats up the stragglers with a 54-second final 400m.

And he didn’t even have his arm sleeves on.
.@KincaidWoody ran the last lap 5 seconds faster than anybody else in the race. That was awesome.

Hillary Bor repeats as your U.S. steeplechase champion with his 8:15.76 victory! Celebrated with 50m to go! Zoom in. U.S. record holder Evan Jager cracks a smile & makes the team after a rough past few years of injuries. Benard Keter takes 3rd. That’s your @WCHoregon22 squad.

One justification for widespread gun ownership is that it protects citizens from the tyranny of the state. I think in the modern US, causation clearly runs in the opposite direction. Widespread gun violence creates conditions of danger that are used to justify police killings.

In a less polarized time - before police unions became general purpose conservative culture war vehicles - police chiefs advocated for gun control on these safety grounds. Now the argument is that the danger widespread guns justifies murder with impunity in the name of safety.

(Oddly, it is usually the proponents of gun ownership - the self appointed defenders of Liberty - who defend the state’s exercise of violence in these cases on the specific justification that the victim may have been armed.)

Very proud of Sara and all the long hours of #science she’s put in to get here! I’ve learned a lot about academia (among other things) in the years we’ve been together, and let me tell you folks: this is a huge accomplishment!
Big news! I’m excited to share that this fall 2022 I will be an assistant professor in the Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences Department @CUBoulderATOC at @CUBoulder!! ✨🌊🌦❄️✨
